Folks,
One downside of having multiple consoles nowadays is that, most popular and good games have lost exclusivity to one console to another. Of course there is always the popular one made by each respective console manufacturer, like Metal Gear, Halo, Mario, etc. these of course are obvious.
But games like Mortal Kombat v. DC, Street Fighter IV, Dyansty Warriors 6, etc. They are available for both the PS3 and the Xbox360. I found that commonly, the games work and look better on the Xbox360 v. the PS3. Probably since they are being written for more familiar code, not necessarily that the 360 is superior. Hardware-wise the PS3 cell processor, in theory is a better design. But then again, on paper AMD processors without the FSB limitation is better, on paper. In practice, it seems that there may not be much substitution for the higher clock speeds.
Let's start a sticky on this forum to assist and discuss which version of a certain game should one get for which console.
I'll start, which one to get for the following:
Dynasty Warriors 6 Street Fighter IV Mortal Kombat v. DC. Resident Evil 5
I know that with some games, they can be identical or the differences are so minute, it comes down to preferences. But then there some games like Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, whereas the PS3 version looks and plays better than the Xbox. There is also COD 4, which is superior to the PS3, mainly due to multiplayer gaming since Xbox Live is a superior product, at least it was when the game came out. But then again, there is the Soul Calibur of the world, in which you are sort of forced to buy all versions, since it has a different playable bonus character, etc.

For Soul Calibur the exclusive characters are a non issue now since they have offered it as DLCs, those who have the PS 3 version can download Yoda, while those with xbox360 can download Darth Vader, Namco made more money that way.
Another game I can add to the list is Fallout 3, the PC version is still the best while the xbox360 and PS 3 versions are still up for debate.

As a General Rule, I would use the PC version of a game (cheaper, more expandable, better graphics, etc) when it comes to RTS and FPS. The consoles are usually better for everything else.

If you can play online I suggest picking up the version for the console most of you're friends ( You do have friends, right?) have .

No...who has time for friend, unless a FF or FWB? ;D Most of my friends are in the same boat as me, we have all three consoles and a couple of PSP's and DS's. LOL So that's a none issue.

Star Wars: Force Unleashed, I hear the PS3 version has problems with clipping (when you can walk through walls and see through them as well) so the 360 version may be the way to go. I've played the PS3 demo and that doesn't see to have that problem.

00silvergt, I've sent you a friend request over xbox live, don't know if there was a typo or if you haven't have the time to reply. You can always against me on COD 4 or Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD remix. Based on your mentioned titles, it seems like you like more Japanese games, which I would say get the PS3 version. For Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5, you will get to use the free multiplayer online mode with the PS3 version. The same can be said about MK v DC. Dynasty Warrior 6, is it still a solo game? 1 player only right? No multiplayer online mode right? For that one, the only positive I can think of for getting the 360 version is for the Achievement points.
I'll probably be getting Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 myself for the 360. For RE5, co-op campaign over LIVE, and SFIV, I guess more domestic challengers. I'm thinking that there will be more Japanese players playing SFIV over the PSN.

Well one thing is for sure PS3 didnt start out by having graphics that were bounds beyond the 360 however the gap has closed and the PS3 is actually getting a bit better. I think in time the PS3 will out do the 360 graphics wise, then again that is dependant on the developers. I ususally buy my games for PS3 simply for the better connection (HDMI) i have on my TV, I have a 1st generation 360 so only component cables for that. I feel the PS3 is crisper image, this is probably due more to the fact that i have it hooked up via HDMI.
Im not a big online fan but having online free (along with it being wireless) is an added and welcomed bounus. I never messed with 360 online much so i cant say what it has to offer anyway, I do know that the new layout looks really Wii ish and a bit childish.
so for now, I only get games on my 360 that are exclusive for the system at the time i get the game or i wait till its available on PS3.

PS3's graphics engine, on paper is leaps and bounds over 360, for the most part, save for the rendering engine and the pipes (if memory serves), the 360 has 8 over the PS3's 4. But the real issue was, because Microsoft was the giant it was and also because it was first in the market, programmers made everything for the 360 and then "ported" it to the PS3. So there were graphical issues, performance, etc. It is not unlike when Apple use to do a head to head match with PC's using Photoshop. At the time PS was created for the Mac OS and was ported or converted to PC, so it wasn't as efficient.

There are no such rules right now, hence me starting this thread. It takes grueling research to find out which console has the superior product and if they are equal I would get it for the PS3, now, since I have over 60 titles for the 360 already. I would rent the two versions and play them both and checkout which is better. I also download the demos for both systems and evaluate that way. An sometimes I would talk to the people at EB games or Gamestop.

lot of fan boys at eb or people who just dont know nothing about gaming in general.
i simply read reviews, but as i stated earlier, i simply look for the PS3 version when available.
one thing though, 360 gets more rpgs, so right now i am playing tales of vesperia, naruto (forget the name), and ninja gaiden 2.
is there a "what are you playing now?" thread?

I just pre-ordered Street Fighter IV Collectors Edition for the PS3. I don't have a PS3 or a 360....yet. I've sort of painted myself into a corner by purchasing the PS3 version of the game, but I think I'm OK with that choice. I've been sort of torn on which console to pick up for quite a while now so I think I've solved that issue. Why the PS3 version?? Great question. For me it was the content for the Collectors Edition ( Blu-Ray SF anime, Ryu PVC fig). Also, I like the Playstation controller better. Now I know I could have just gotten a HORI stick or the SFIV controller for the 360, but there were some add'l factors involved in the choice. That being free PSNetwork and WI-FI capabilities. I also understand that PS3 games are region free. This really excites me, as I'm a big importer. I hope to see more Japanese developers hop on the Sony bandwagon soon. I know I'll end up getting a 360 at some point, but I think I can live with my PS3 choice for now.

There will be another price drop sometime in April of this year. Sony has have plans to drop the 80GB model down to the 299 price point. Also, there will be another price drop on the 360 too, but still no price drop for the Wii. Dell online has been selling the 80GB PS3 at the 319.99 level over the holidays and Sony Credit card offer allow for a 100$ cash back if you apply for a Sony card.

With the 360 at $199, Sony has no choice but to drop it to $299 to compete. I think Microsoft will be doing it's own price drop soon, as well. Nintendo must be loving the fact that they maybe the only system that will not drop since there is hardly a change in demand for it.
