A grail of mine achieved. Removable mask Kaman Rider V2 with variant box. ;D collectiondx.com/gallery/Collections/joshua+fraser/Kaman+V2.jpg.htmlThis is a very rare piece. Originally purchased in 1994 from a Ray Rohr catalog (very well known Tin dealer from Washington) and been out of circulation in the collection of a seasoned collector till this week. Long story short, a big one off my top ten list. I will do an in depth review and (video) on CDX soon. But wanted to share the find with those who appreciate tin. Best J

That's a nice rider! I like the face sculpt in particular. Here's my Billiken version. Do you know any history of Angel?

Hi uberrider,
I LOVE the Billiken version. In my humble opinion, one of the nicest new tins made for sure.
Angel is something of a footnote in the History of the transition between Bullmark and Ark. After Bullmark went bankrupt, Angel continued producing a couple tins. If you look at the Battery Operated Kaman Rider (drool) you wil see, he is a Bullmark made piece, while the two versions of the kaman Rider windups are in fact Angel. The tine I recently aquired has a bullmark catalog in the box, showing the connection as well. In terms of the specifics of the transition, and who Angel was, I am still trying to research.
But as far as I know, and my knowledge is limited, the only two Angel tins (japanese characters) were Kaman rider version 1 with non removable mask and version V2 with the removable mask. The face mold is a standard one, which you can also see on the more common Mirrorman windup. There are distinct color differences with both versions as would be expected.
;-)

"Sweetness Josh. Sweetness! Give a few sticky details with the aquisition. plz"
Well Ed...you mean in terms of what...how I got it, or about the details of the toy itself?
The toy has been off the market for about 15 years, and was in the collection of a seasoned collector who was looking to unload the rest of his tin collection due to other interests. he had gotten it from the famous tin dealer Ray Rohr in 94' from a add in Toyshop magazine. (ah the oldskool approach, I miss those days)
I had asked him about my looking for an Ultraman Leo walker, and sadly he had sold one (which I recall being on ebay, when I was living in Hong Kong) and it had gone for quite a bit more than he expected. i had told him I had lost out on that auction and regretted it ever since.
He had a few nice, but common pieces for sale, and then told me about the Kaman Rider. I was excited but cautious, because I knew they are few and far between and command certainly more than an average zenmai. Comparable to a battery op tin price in fact. But what i did not know was the version he had was something I had never encountered.
I had been burned a month before on a first version with non removable mask Kaman, and was still looking for one. The previous one had some box issues and was in about c9 condition, but again was not cheap. I usually base my purchases now on whether I will ever find the item again, and decided, even though the condition was not perfect, I would need to bite to fill the gap in the collection till an upgrade (though unlikely) were found.
With this item though, the toy was MUCH rarer, ( there are 3-5 of the first version Kaman I know of in collections internationally) but like the seller had said to me, this was the only second version he/I have ever seen. That is not to say it is not out there, but I have seen more of other "grail" zenmais over the years than this one. Barom 1 even has shown up 2-3 times in 5 years.
Anyway, long story short, I sold off some stuff to finance it,and it is getting a CGA box made for it now. I will have a custom container also made for the toy as well just to be safe.
It is in transit right now to my house, and I am obviously nervous as hell , and instructed the seller how I wanted it packed... needless to say I am not apologetic for my neurosis in this case. The box likely commanded a third of the price offered in my mind.
Anyway, thats about as much as I can share about it. ;-)
