I have never seen the show unfortunately and have tried to do as much research as i can but I am trying to figure out who is the "main" character of the show? I guess what I mean, is if you were to compare it to Robotech, who would be the Rick Hunter?
I am interested in the 1/60 Chogokin bots but can't decide between the Skull Squadron looking one and the VF-25F. So, I kid of want to know which one s piloted by the "hero".
Any help is appreciated.

The main "hero" of the show is Alto, the one who pilots the VF-25F (the white one with red and black stripes). Ozma pilots the gray 25S, the one with the skull livery. Think of Ozma as the supporting, senior Focker-type character with the difference that he survived the entire series. Head here for summaries of each episode: www.mahq.net/animation/macross/frontier/frontiermain.htmAlto's the guy (yes, a guy) standing between the two girls in the banner in the link above. Also, if you're planning on getting either of these valks, it would be prudent to wait for the reissued versions coming out in April (I think?) which may include some retooled / updated designs (ie. extra holes).

Bobby is clearly the main character. His Variable fighter is far superior to all the others ;P

Awwwww, don't tell him that! Now the Pine cake gimmick is ruined... ;D TOO LATE!!!! ;D Anyway, I think the pineapple salad reference won't be too obvious since they changed the episode title in Robotech. Of course, that's assuming he didn't watch Macross in its original form...

Yeah. Love a lot of the references they put into this show, which I am sure bring a lot of smiles to many Macross fans, with some reference more obvious than others. One of the best one is Bilrar's (SMS owner) motive for doing what he does, which won't be revealed until the very end of the show. Without spoiling it all, all I can say is that, "its soooo Macross."
Kudos to the Macross Frontier staffs who came up with all these nice touches.

Will Macross Frontier be making its way to the States? If so, when (e.g., on DVD/Blue Ray)?

Will Macross Frontier be making its way to the States? If so, when (e.g., on DVD/Blue Ray)? Judging from past disputes between the companies involved with the Macross franchise (ie. Big West, Tatsunoko, Nue, Harmony Gold), I would say unlikely though I'm no expert on this. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable on the whole foursome fiasco can enlighten us on this. Anyway, here's a short article I found that attempts to answer your question: www.aintitcool.com/node/38601It's interesting to note that one of the contributing factors behind the absence of M7's NA localization was due to difficulties in licensing the rights to its music (BOMBA! ;D Sorry, had to do it!)

I wouldn't have minded if they did not finish the story arc at the end. That way, the series could have been continued to another season.

Another season of Frontier would have probably been a welcomed addition. Since, the first part of the series was mostly a tribute to the Original series. Alto stealing the Valk, rescuing Minmay, I mean Rika, even the arm falls out like in Macross. So many similarities as a tribute to Macross. Then it finally breathe its own series at a little beyond the half-way point. That's when it got good. Albeit, I don't think even with years of therapy can I get over the Alto as a cross dresser thing...lol. What is the Japanese's fascination with cross dressing? BTW, as an Asian History student in school, I do know what all men played in Kabuki...even the female roles, but still that doesn't explain why they seem to have a certain curiosity about that.
The Japanese culture has a pretty weird attitude towards sex. In many ways, they are a bit prudish like us, Americans, but to a higher degree, they would sensor the genitalia of both men (I don't mind this at all ;D) and women (now, this I protest!). But they also come up with some nasty stuff. Chikan for instance, is groping of Japanese or females in general in a crowded train...WTH? Then there's the whole raping of women by tentacles. Another thing, why is it, even when if it is consensual sex, Japanese women act like they are being forced?

Men used to play all the roles in Shakespeare plays, too. That was primarily because at the time plays developed out of churches and labor groups which were entirely mens domains. I don't know anything about kabuki history, but maybe it's similar. Maybe for a time only men were allowed to act and perform. Whatever the case, it doesn't make me uncomfortable in the least. I enjoy a good drag show from time to time.

For a time nothing. Women were allowed in traditional japanese theater for a period of maybe twenty or so years in the 1600's, after which they were banned. Before and after then it's always been the role of males to play the women roles as well as those of men.
It's not really that different from the Shakespearean era where 99.99% of female roles were played by young prebubescent boys. Shakespeare even used to poke fun at this concept by having female characters pretend to be males, who were then played by males pretending to be females.
.... HOW exactly did we get onto the topic of cross dressing and chikan, exactly?
EDIT: Drag shows are freaking hilarious. I heartily approve of anyone with the stones to dress up in womens clothing and strut their stuff in public. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to do it.
