So no one has seen this before? hmm... Well, these models keep appealing to me. At least the box art and the concepts do. Most of these are pretty cheap looking, but they are certainly intriguing. I discovered a great line called the Gattai Redhawk Yamato series. Some of these are a knockoff of the Yamato ship, but they seem to go much further with it. The Redhawk line separates into several parts, each of which transform into other vehicles. In addition, they incorporate a giant robot into the deck of one version. Pretty damn insane, and the box art kills! Rather than posting pix I have personally saved, I'll just link this awesome in-depth website of the line. This was compiled by a company that owns the American license for Starblazers, and they have some great info on that series on their website, too. Just follow the links. www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_id=209There are even more amazing combining toys issued under this line, including another Super Robot. I'll post more on this when I get home tonight.

The ship with the giant robot torso in the deck reminds my very much of the Dai-Gurren from Gurren Lagann. I wonder if these are what inspired it?

There are a few of them around. There is a Grendizer with car as well. Bandai just made a line of models. Boys like robots and they like cars, so why npot package them together? ;-) I am sure it was a way to repackage existing toys they needed to sell off, and used the popular robots as a gimmick to do so. I could be way off though.
I have the unpainted version of Gaiking that came with out the car. There is also a fully colored version by itself. The duel pack with the care is rarer and commands a little more, ( the single robot kits go for 25-45 depending where you find them) Personally I like it. It has a funk.

Ahh, thanks for the info, Josh. I don't think I'd seen the Grendizer combo set before, though I have seen the solo Gaiking. Cyrano, that might very well be. Thought I'd post a couple pictures I'd collected (same models as what's on the website) for those too lazy to folllow the link. This one's blurry, unfortunately: Now, I had mentioned that there were other toys released under the Redhawk line. I don't think these were specifically Redhawk Yamato, just Redhawk. Here's an amazing robot model that transforms into several vehicles. What's even cooler is that you can combine it with other models of the same line to create the mack-daddy of all vehicles. Check the back of the box for pics, with the additional sets shown on the bottom row: And if you look closely at the robot form, it might look a little familiar. That's because there was another Super Robot released under this line (as I had mentioned in my post yesterday). Who is it? Drumroll please... dubudubudubudubu... Introducing... Astekaizer!! Now Astekaizer himself was released with some vehicle model sets (I suspect that there were combining sets similar to the Redhawk Yamato ones). Check out this amazing artwork, and notice who's flying in the background and molded into the front of the ship: Now that you've seen this, check out the first Yamato pic I posted. Although small, it looks like that might even be Astekaizer flying in the background of that one too! That's all I really have for now. If you have more. post 'em!

Awesome. Those Gattai Yamato kits really are insane - and I love that box art. Thanks for these. Only one from Redhawk I've seen is this Jeeg Big shooter. Looks to be officially licensed as you can see the Takara mark on the box. Some funky stuff. I've never seen that Gaiking with car, but have come accross this unpainted Grendi.

Astekaizer is a wrestling tokusatsu character from a live action television show, and he's not a robot.

Ahh, my bad. I was in a rush, and didn't check this well enough. I thought they were one in the same, and Atranger was just a European version of the name. I knew the heads were similar... www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/yonezawa/images/astekaizer.jpgThanks for the correction.
