I apologize first because this is my first post. I looked all over the forum and could not find anything on the Five star stories mechs. Does anyone know if their any toys for this series. I know their are models. These mechs are different and incredible looking. Does anyone have any info on them???

they pretty much are exactly the same. they are snap together injection mold kits no painting required. the ones available i think are knight of gold and patraqushe if im correct. the variety of mechas from the series mostly reside in the resin kits though unfortunately.they are quite beautiful though and mind boggling

I have one of their older PVC figures. They are rare and hard to get afaik. If I run across a pic I will post it.

No they are much harder to build then gundams and are quite fragile (at least the older ones are) they also dont move much. I do hear that the more recent injection kits are better built but not sure if they are as snap friendly as gundam. I have three (though i am thinking of selling them) unbuilt kits.

The plastic FSS kits are not snap builds, and they absolutely require paint. They're also about twice as expensive as the average gundam kit of the same size, so even the most affordable of small scale 1/144 kits is more expensive than the average MG. There were a few PVC action figures made of the FSS series a loooong time ago, and they were of such poor quality, Mamoru Nagano decreed that he would never again license his FSS mechs to be made as toys. Sad, really. Getting into the resin kits, there are three major players (or rather, two major and one minor): Volks, Work Shop Cast, and Wave. Wave is the lower end of the three manufacturers, with Volks and WSC having different sculptors and having different design styles. WSC kits are almost always free-pose kits; that means that while they aren't poseable, they are designed so that the kit has flexibility in the placement of the joints so that you can at least adjust how it looks before it all gets pinned together. The WSC kits are usually designed to be "beefier" in appearance, and are historically larger than their Volks counterparts. Volks has several different lines of FSS kits: Solid Art Versions, which are purely fixed pose, Multiple Machine Movement system versions, which use polycaps and are generally a nightmare to build and then deal with once they're done (most people end up glueing them in place). There are older versions by different names, but most of Volks' stuff breaks down into totally fixed or totally poseable figures. Wave hits a wierd middle ground by doing stuff in scales nobody else does (most FSS material is 1/100 scale, a lot of wave's stuff is 1/144), or doing things nobody else will try, such as production of injection molding kits. Their older 1/100 Injection Plastic kits suffer from some serious mold quality issues, but are nice enough looking. Their newer 1/144's such as the LED Mirage kits are, in contrast, VERY nice and extremely well designed. The only problem is, again, the price, as mentioned previously. Sadly, the fact of the matter is that if you want a FSS Mortar Headd, you have to build one yourself, and unlike Gundam it isn't easy, or cheap. I have about five old FSS resin kits gathering dust in my closet for that day I finally get out of my modeling funk and start building resin kits again... heh...

well put quin, I wish FSS got more love and they made better kits a bit more affordable. Of course, the ultimate would be completed figures, but at this point, I dont think that will ever occur.

For those looking to pick up a FSS mecha but (understandably) shy away from resin kits, the following kits are injection plastic and, while they do require paint and glue, are very well designed and fairly user friendly. They also look GREAT when they're finished. hlj.com/product/WAVFS-100hlj.com/product/WAVFS-103They use a semi-clear white pearlescent plastic that gives them a great finish on the white parts. Wave supposedly is coming out with an IP 1/144 LED Mirage V3 Inferno Napalm that I would KILL to get my hands on, but other than the original announcement page I haven't been able to find any information on where to get it or when it will be coming out...

Thanks for all of the info. I have been collecting Mechas since Daltanius in the early 80's and building Gundams in the early 90's when they were hard to find here in the US. I saw one FSS model at a comic book shop . But it was way to expensive for me to purchase at the time. I always wondered why such beautiful and detailed mechas were never produced in toys or viable models. Thanks Again for the info. I saw some on Ebay. I am going to try getting the 1/144 Inferno Napal and Goldne Knight and see how it goes.

Here is a pic of the figure. Not very poseable and the small thin bits are brittle. His horn got snapped off in storage years ago. I think I still have it. I need to find it and glue it back on. He is about the size of a completed model kit from what I can tell. I also have a new plastic Patraqushe Mirage model I was thinking of selling cause I do not think I will ever get around to building it.

I actually have one of those PVC figures of the LED Mirage. They're actually made by Kaiyodo. I have mine MISB for a change. I just couldn't bring myself to open this. And I never will. It comes with a few accessories and even a sheet of decals. (??) *Shrugs* If I think about it I'll take some pics of mine later on. Can't forget about this nice piece here, The Engage SR1 ! Huge fan of FSS actually. I have several un-built GKs and an old Wave 1/144 (non plated) KOG that I built when I didn't know what I was doing. I'm working on a recast of V Siren 104 Prominence. It's a recast of one of those Volks Mechanical Moveing kits quinjester mentioned. I am building mine to be posed and luckily I was able to find some MM parts from the volks website. The really cool thing IMHO is you can actually go to Volks and order kits, parts and supplies directly! www.volks.co.jp/en/index.aspxwww.volks.co.jp/en/fss/index_fss.aspxOh yeah, and the manga is pretty sweet too! ;D

I love the FSS mechas but I have a fetish for articulation, and rarely will I buy a limited posed kit if I am aware of it. though I wouldnt mind having some of those resins but my resin skills are non exsistent at this point. I could just build the three i have but hearing about how difficult they are really puts me off on them.

I might dig up the accessories for it, and see if there is anything else people might want ot trade for it. I was never partial to it. When I bought it I was all about the FSS stuff, but over time my taste has become too realistic and I just can't see how something can move with those big pointy feet, skinny legs and hunks of armor on the torso. Engineering flaws are becoming a pet peeve of mine.
