Not really a "toy" but also probably not a certified crash helmet either... so a prop? The limited Macross VF-1 pilot helmets by Yamato are making a second run this summer! www.yamato-toys.com/dev/release_025/index.html?infolnk=index_pickupI know it's stupid expensive but no worse than a daigokin or an ex-gokin. Sounds like it will be made-to-order so you need to pre-order to get in on them. My question is... where to pre-order this kind of thing? If it has an SRP of 40000JPY, shouldn't it be just over $400USD? Why have I seen resellers (I'm looking at YOU, Angolz) listing it at over $600USD (and that's before shipping). Is that normal?

Nevermind. I see there were lots of folks reading this post but I guess nobody had any suggestions. And in any case, I just realized the Angolz listing had a pre-order closing date the previous date.

If they made it certified as a race or motorcycle helmet, I would buy one. Its about the same price as one.

To me, that's a really big profit from this item, and a big reason why I Y!J it up instead of messing with Angolz for something like this... No reason to hand them $200 just because it's "rare." Wait a few months after it comes out, and buy it for retail or less when the "Macross-Miss-Panic!" factor goes away.

I'm told they are excellent pieces for your $400. But what drives me bananas is the fact that it's a prop and not a certified crash helmet. A real-life helmet would easily cost anywhere from $200 to $1000.

This would sure look cool beside a clone trooper helmet and maybe an iron man helmet.

you mean i can't wear it?
I don't care if it is cert-helmet or not, as alot of people don't wear helmet anyway. I need to know if it's wearable? actual size compared to a real thing. 1:1?

For anybody still curious, I posted a review and "unboxing" photos on my blog about the helmet. It arrived this week and man, the box was enormous! I had to put the back-seat down in my hatchback to drive it home from the post-office. And yes, the first questions to answer: it's wearable and has interior padding (no screws sticking into my head) but not practical either because it's so damn heavy: it's a just display prop after all.

Sorry to bump but I reviewed Masei's ECE (dirtbike) approved VF-1 helmet. Feel free to ask away. It's not a prop like Yamato's but an ACTUAL riding helmet.
