Well, if this is you're first kit, I would advise not buying it. But if you insist then yes, you do need to paint. You also need many equipment to cut and sand the parts. As for Astray itself, I think it only appeared in a Seed spinoff manga that was pretty famous.

Magmatron is mostly correct. The only thing I would change or add is that you do not necessarily need to paint this model as it is molded in the correct colours. Tools like a sprue cutter and sanding films (fine) would be helpful too. However, if this is your first model I would definitely think twice. Perfect Grade models are quite extensive in terms of parts and time it takes. The instructions, although clear, are very detailed and require a some review before snapping together. Prepare to spend a few nights just putting together legs and arms etc. Having said that, I believe PG kit's to be the most fun to build next to MG's and HGUC's. If you are nervous about building large kits with lots of parts or have no basic knowledge of how working parts should be built, then you should'nt attempt it.. However, If you know your way around plastic mecha models and have an adventurous spirit then it's and instant get. I sure as heck wish I could afford this thing. The PG Astray looks to be another engineering masterpiece from the folks at Bandai! Hope this helps, deadman! EDIT: Astray doesn't appear in the Gundam SEED or SEED Destiny TV series, but does have a 10 minute promo short produced by Sunrise. Try Youtube to see if they've got it. I actually like the short better than both SEED and SEED D series! LOL!

Magmatron is mostly correct. The only thing I would change or add is that you do not necessarily need to paint this model as it is molded in the correct colours. But not painting it leaves you with a dull plastic look ! Unless some parts have painted details that you think are difficult to replicate, you need to paint it! But it would be easier to just not paint though. but But pick up some separate ball joints, you need to make this as perfect as possible ;D! Edit: you may not need to paint every part, but I recommend black lining, it really help bringing out the details! See the difference ? And this is just a HG figure, imagine how it will improve a PG ?

I'd say go for it. My second kit was a PG Strike, I've never painted it and it looks fantastic on my shelf. PGs are built with so much attention to detail that they command a lot of shelf presence unpainted. All you need is a pair of good cutters (I swear by tamiya cutters) and a lot of patience. Here's how the PG Astray looks like unpainted, panel lined and with decals. Even I'm tempted to pick up one! www.dalong.net/review/pg/p11/p11_p.htmAs this is your first kit, I wouldn't advise you to paint it or even apply the decals. However, you can build it, observe how the parts connect together and make preparations for painting it when you're confident enough. Here's a basic tutorial. It shows you how to cut it from the sprue, clean up the flashes and how to trim the male connectors in the event you wanna take it apart: codyscoop.com/ht-1.htmlHere's a few simple methods you can improve the look of an unpainted gunpla. Be adventurous! - perform a simple black panel line wash: www.gamerabaenre.com/panel_line_wash.htm- dry brush metallic details like the head lasers etc. If you don't like it, just use the appropriate thinner to remove it (depending on the paint you're using, I recommend starting with acrylics). - now this method I don't recommend... because it's tedious and I've never tried it on an unpainted gunpla before. You can use Tamiya polishing compound and polish the armor parts to give it a car-like shine. It'll make your gunpla less plastic-looking and give it a super gloss look. However, this method is extremely tedious (took me about 5-6 hours for a MG) and only if you like your robots shiny, which I do. Hope this helps!

I actually find PGs to be the easiest to build, sure they take longer, but the parts are big and easy to handle. No you dont need to paint your kits if you dont feel like it, most MG and PG (and many of the more recent HG kits) look decent without paint, however, I do recomend panel lining if only with a micron pen (.5) or gundam felt tip pen (wich is better especially for white parts IMO).
If you have a good pair of nippers and are careful enough you may not even need to sand. Of course if it does seem daunting to you, you can opt for the excellent HG kit wich (though way smaller and not as detailed) can help you get your fingers wet and its loads cheaper!

yeah you see how easy it is, Like i said, I found PGs much easier to build then anything else, yes there have more parts, but the parts are big and most are easy to handle. Some Mgs have really tiny parts and they are a pain to put together.

well here is my experience.. at first when i opened the box, and saw all the peices,, and went thinking .. "where do i begin" .. with all these parts, made me scratch my head.. so i decided to just go for it, and it is an amazing experience and just did the second leg.. hands down, this is the best impression & experience i've had with a toy.

here are some pics I have to say again, this is the best thing i have experienced in a toy.. sure it hurt my back a bit for working on it for too long, but it was worth it.. i didn't apply all the decals yet, because the small one's are annoying to put on. And i don't mind of owning another Perfect Grade Kit

Nice work bro. Makes me want to get started on mine....LOL. Hey, if you're interested in additional PG's, I'm gonna have 2 prebuilt ones available soon. Let me know if you're interested. PG Strike and PG Strike Rouge. Unless you want to experience building them yourself of course. ;D
Anyway, nice job!

I knew you would love it! one thing about decals, they are a pain but using tweezers and a tooth pick help a lot. However, as you can see, they look fantastic on thier own with nothing done to them.
