Hello, I've read a few of the threads on the different God Marz versions but am still confused between the different boxes for the U.S. release version. Any clarification would be great, thanks! What's the difference between the God Marz (image attached) and the more typical Bandai America looking box? If I didn't attach the image right, here's the link... www.gasolinealleyantiques.com/transportation/images/Space%20Page/godmarz1.JPGThanks!

The version you have pictured, is the later 1984/85 release box, of the DX set. It's identical parts , tray, etc., inside to the earlier 1982 first Godaikin release box w/ the huge photo on the front, and greenish color background. And the same (except for English instruction manual) to the 1st black w/ artwork box Japanese DX Popy release.
The main difference w/the later Godaikins , is the box is only a one piece slipcover design, w/ viewing windows built into the outer box, as shown. The styro slides out the end. The earlier DX sets have a bottom box tray, holding the styro tray, overlaid by an inner window display lid, and then the solid outer box cover w/ the pretty pictures on it.( Ya probably knew this anyway, I'm just spelling it completely out for whatever. =op)
The other thread you may have seen, is for the GodMarz Custom Type. Completely different, and smaller, simpler toy set. All the others, including the KO GodTron, are the same DX size toy, just different boxes. Hope that helps.

Excellent, thanks! I have the 1982 release, this makes more sense now. Is one more rare than the other?

Not sure which is rarer but I would think in terms of value Popy Godmarz > Godaikin Godmarz green box > Godaikin Godmarz silver box > Popy Godmarz Customs > Taiwan Popy licensed Godmarz Customs > bootleg
For bootleg there's Godbot and Giant Combine Bot, Giant Combine Bot being the rarest.
Guys please correct me if I'm wrong.

Items to throw out there....
I know copywrights are 1982, but I have wondered if these really should be classified as 1983 releases.
Then I bet the Japanese version will have one or two fewer stampings on the toy back....maybe not, but someone out there might confirm this.
For instance I noticed that the Guardian got a POPY stamping in english on the back after its first release.
As for value, I find that the first briefcase stlye box has a premium. I find it much harder to find MIB because it was a quick release with lower production numbers.

Just based on ebay, I'd say there is a 3- or 4- to 1 ratio of Silver box to Briefcase box. Took me FOREVER to get a nice briefcase box.

Yep. Sorry for the wonky lighting. DX on the left. Custom type on the right. Box size comparison.

Oh yeah! Many times I see winning bids for DX versions go for less than what B.I.N.'s are from some sellers offering the CustomType. Toy-wise, you'll be loving the DX more, whichever box version you get, they're all the same, as discussed above.
