why? because you can now play downloaded games on them and they are on sale. here is the story. two days ago. you can only buy those old original firmware 3.92 PSP slims to play downloaded games and they are not cheap at around 16000 pesos here in the philippines. and the OFW 4.01 PSP slims are on bargain bins for around 8500 BRAND NEW with warranty. but because of a program that you can install on the memory stick for the PSP version 5.03 PSP slim that can play downloaded games which was released yesterday. the bargain 4.01 PSP is a hot item. in this case any PSP 2000 slim is selling fast. here is the link. www.dark-alex.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14641&start=0 ;D

Hold on a minute. I just check to see what that link was. Yes, it a dark alex program, but it needs CFW to run it. It's basically a plugin that allow old homebrew programs that was made to only work on the 1.50 firmware to work in the 5.00 firmware without the use of Timemachine. Dark Alex is the famous PSP Custom Firmware hacker that gave us the M33 CFW. So far, he has been writing CFW up to 5.00 M33-6, up to revision 6 for the 5.00 firmware. But he has yet to figure out how to hack the PSP 3000 model and the old PSP 2000 model that has a TA-88 V3 Mobo. Now, most newer Slim PSP-2000 model do come with the 4.01 firmware, but most of them have the ta-88 v3 board which we can't use the program DC v8. I've done enough PSP hack to know that you can take your chance at buying a PSP-2000 model with the 4.01 firmware. If you are lucky enough, you will get one that has a ta-88v2 board and CFW can be installed onto it. Otherwise, the only option is to buy games for that system.

here is a rough translation.
What is? A program that activates the functions of the M33 custom firmware using ChickHen.
What do I need? - A PSP Slim (Slim only works with, regardless of the plate you have) - Firmware version 5.03. - ChickHen R2 (minimum)
Compatibility: - The functions are the same with the 5.00 M33, all work except: - Recovery (Se cree may be anticipated that an alternative power to set the homebrew CFW) - Pops (PSX Games)
Installation:
- Copy the folder to your psp CFWEnabler in X: / PSP / GAME /
To be like this: X: / PSP / GAME / CFWEnabler / EBOOT.PBP
How to use:
Starts ChickHen from the picture section. Then start the homebrew called for CFW Loader ChickHEN. The first time you need CFW to install modules into the flash memory with the option Circle (Do not override, simply add modules, it is a safe process.) Then press X to start the CFW. You are in a CFW!
FAQ:
- Can load isos? - Yes, yes you can. - Do you like my PSP Slim is f**king plate? - Yes, it does not matter. - Does my PSP3000? - No, not working, at least. - Can you break my console? - It is true that he writes some files in internal memory, but does not overwrite anything, so this is not problematic. - When you turn off the console I have to repeat the procedure? - Yes, you have to repeat it, but do not have Flash modules each time. - And you can not prevent either procedure? - Could be avoided if we could do an IPL compatible, so you need information PreIPL. - Is expected to be in the future rectify the current problems? - It is possible, but is not guaranteed anything. - Is expected that a future compatible with PSP3000? - You might try, but is not guaranteed anything. - Does the M33 SDK? - Yes, it works.
Acknowledgements:
- A Dark_AleX for the M33 modules. - Especially him, who knows who he is, and that is part of the credit for helping him.
Un Saludo.
special thanks to: Xenogears and Becus25

yes you still need to run it on some CFW but its a lot of hope for the "thought to be unhackable" 4.01 OFW psp late model slim. its a great leap for playing downloaded ISO\CSO games on all slim 2000 psp.
psp3000 still needs some prayers though.

Didn't want to revive an old thread that was over 9 months old, but I finally got to play around with this one. ChickHen R2 installation. This will only work for PSP's that has not been updated to the newest 6.20 Firmware. For those that has a PSP-3000 models, the new ones in the market would probably not be at firmware 5.03, which is the version in which this hack can work. Last year, I was given two PSP 2000 models, the ones with TA-88v3 boards. These suckers block all custom firmware installation. No Pre- IPL can be loaded, thus, even when a Jigkick battery is install with a MMS, the system just hangs.
Fast forward to early May of 2009, a team of code writers, found a hack in picture images that allow for temporary usage of custom firmware functions. The picture kinda scrambles the system flash 0, not permanently and rewrites the flash section allowing the system to run homebrews.
So yesterday, I got a chance to work on my little cousins PSP again, it was virtually still untouch since it wasn't hacked and he only used his older brothers PSP cause there were all kinds of games, through homebrew emulators. The process wasn't hard, just that it didn't work all the time. Flashing the system from 4.01 to 5.03, just get the update and do it. Not a problem. D/L 5.03 GEN C Full and place it in the game section. Also easy. Then get the ChickHen R2 picture files and place it into the Picture section of the Memory card. Also not hard to do. But the hard part is this, it doesn't work all the time. Sometimes, I can get the machine to load into Chickhen R2, sometimes the machine just hangs and shuts off. Then after every time you load this thing, you have to run the 5.03 GEN C program to put the system in 5.03 GEN, this is so that you can play all the newest PSP ISO games.
SO basically the PSP is in official firmware, 5.03. And every time you turn the machine off all the way and you power it back up, you are back in official firmware. Each time, you have to load the CHickHen R2 pictures to trick the system. And as a reminder, it doesn't always work. Then load 5.03 GEN C. All these steps before you can play backup games and homebrew emulators on the newest PSP 2000 model and the early PSP 3000 models. And of course, it doesn't work for the PSPGO. With any hope, a similar hack will be found, this time it will be though loading a save file. No one have come up with a 6.XX CFW, and without it, can't play Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts, and there isn't a release date out for the USA release for that game.
