Havn't done any super robot fan art in ages. But I thought a Super Distort Fewture Getter would be fun to do. I want to throw a axe in there later. And maybe do a colouring video too.

The angle of the leg looks a little odd, but otherwise great! The Detail is very "Fewture" inspired and looks very cool.

Damn, yer friggin Sick with them lines, dude! The detail is Tight, too!
I like it. It's got that "Super-Deformed" touch on this Fewture Getter, like those Super-Deformed anime gundams and such.

I'd like to do the others in the same style when I have time to. It was fun. well if you're just talking about the drawing maybe compressed 2 hrs (thats taking out coffee.. replying emails... msn). And for colour.... when I recoded it says 1hr and 6mins. But during this time I hit pause... drink cofee.. msn and chat emails etc... Hmm how many steps? well I usually break it down to these steps Grey out everything (for middle tone) Darks Now that your shapes and volumes are done... next step would be adjusting Values (I darken areas to make it fall back.. to make it feel more 3d) which I do at 1:48 (timeline) Highlights (the fun part) I do flat colours next. (middle values) Create Higher saturation (those are the parts I enhance the highlights). I add secondary grey lighting... in the shadows. around 5:20 and then I do bounced lights. (which is colours reflecting off each other.. like some of the red will go into the silver/whiteish metal areas etc). And then I do a hard backlight to pop it fromthe background.. and somemore hot whites for highlights (i try to limit pure whites as much as possible until the end... to create contrast). I had a quiet day today.. so I was relaxed.. waiting to get feed back on some work I did last week. ok just posted the higher res over at kidchuckle.blogspot.com/

Awesome colouring as usual Kidchuckle. By any chance do you have a much much bigger video file of this and of any other colouring tutorial? Are you using channels or layers? And I have another request if possble. Do you have a tutorial also of coloring a person not just super robot. I only have photoshop CS2.
Thanks

Hey thanks man. Umm if you double click that youtube video. you should see on the bottom HD. it will be in 1080 p (for high definition to watch). i have youtube channel. www.youtube.com/profile?user=kidchuckle&view=videosall thevideos I've ever done. I think for people - In colour. Valentines Chunli Blanka oh no I don't colour in channels. Just blend mode colour or blend mode overlay etc. And then paint opaguely. I used to just paint straight colour... no black and white.. but I found it too frusterating sometings trying to get the shapes.. and the colours I wanted and having it balanced. Black and white seems to work better for me.. and then drop in colour after. Hope that helps. if you got questions onthe timeline for any of those videos.. I can probably tell you what i did. But my colouring format is basically the same I think with the Joust tutorial I did.. is the best one where I wrote down each step (although its not timelapse video)

When you say"I don't colour in channels. Just blend mode colour or blend mode overlay etc. And then paint opaguely." Are you refering to layers or when you choose a brush then a colour to use you change the brush "mode" to overlay? "And then paint opaguely." This is flat colour on another layer and you just adjust its opacity and leave the level mode as normal? I went to your blog and the Joust tutorial is too small and unreadable. www.flickr.com/photos/86736087@N00/3776571457/thanks

Sorry just watched the joust video, the layer's mode is the one you set to overlay and make another layer of the flat colour as overlay.
i'm noticing that in the shading portion in the getter video from 0 to 2:56 there are alot of layers. Does this mean when you do each shade of gray you create another layer.
And is the very black layer the one above the "background layer that is white" what is that. the 2nd layer from the very bottom. Is that the lineart set to multiply?

oops sorry about that Southpaw. didn't realize flickr capped images. I have it on Deviant art www.deviantart.com/download/131655408/Joust_Tutorial_by_kidchuckle.jpgfor the full res. Yes I use layers or layer set for the blend modes I use a brush with slight opacity.. and start to build up the colours more on top. (and thicken the paintmore and more as i brush over it). I hope that helps

Seeing it in colors really makes it alive, just which you could have made a background for it. Maybe with 2&3 thrown in ;D!
