I used to own the entire series, including Brave Maximus. I've since sold off all but two. I sincerely believe Prime and Magnus are the two keepers of the series, if only for the versatility of the combined Omega Prime. If you haven't played around with his transformation yet, you definately need to visit my Alternate Transformation Modes page: spacebridge2000.tripod.com/alt/altindex.htmlIncidentally, I feel Scourge and X-Brawn were also amazing figures. Scourge's base is second rate, as is his transformation, but his robot mode is quite amazing. X-Brawn has an awesome transformation, can use his weapons in vehicle mode, and has incredible attention to detail, including a front hood that can be opened to reveal the engine. Unfortunately, Scourge and X-Brawn didn't have enough other TFs that were of the same scale and quality. They stuck out too much in my collection, as a result.

See now I was impressed by Scourge's look....EVIL look , but have yet to hold/Transform the Prime. You consider him the standout of the collection, but do you recommend the Japanese or the American version? -Ed Anyone else?

I only have the Japanese versions of Prime and Magnus. From what I understand, Prime is slightly better because of some change in the missiles, but the voicebox obviously doesn't speak English (which is quite amusing). The only difference with Magnus that I know of is that he has an extra well-placed Autobot logo on the American version. The Japanese boxes for all three were obviously superior, as well.
Let me say this about Prime: His vehicle mode isn't all that wonderful. In fact, I never use it. What I find impressive about him is his smaller robot mode (better than Scourge, in my opinion, though his thighs are a little too huge), as well as the combined Prime/Magnus Omega Prime robot, which is a lot of fun to mess with. Magnus is decent in both modes, though his robot mode doesn't stand very well.

Handy to know there aren't too many differences between the US and Japanese versions.
At the moment the US versions of Prime and Magnus are at half price in UK Toys R Us. I've looked and admired the combined form on the boxes, but so far haven't taken the plunge, I think I might pick them up before stocks run out.

I would suggest it RMS from experience. Over here they just disappeared and there wasn't much discounting

I saw a lot of discounting. Prime sat on shelves for ages around here. Made me feel stupid for paying $50+ to import mine from Japan

Prime and Magnus have been shelf warmers over here. They've been at half price in Toys R Us for over a month now and there's still plenty of them about. Also plenty of half price Megatrons about too. RID just doesn't seem to have been that popular here.
Armada seems to be doing a bit better, but it was the recent release of some of the US reissues that really did well. Reissue Prime was surprisingly cheap, but strangely reissue Star Scream was very expensive, I can still see him about now.

RID wasn't much of a toyline, in general. It was intended to be Takara's triumphant return to vehicle Transformers featuring intricate designs that were light years beyond the originals, but Takara suddenly found itself facing bakruptsy part way through which is why two thirds of the toyline are repaints and nothing but Prime, Magnus, X-Brawn, Prowl, and Sideburn (the new designs) are high quality and to scale with one another. I suspect they were forced to cut corners on Landfill and Railracer, but I can't be sure.

Youre all forgetting JRX, the standout of the bunch.
Get prime, megatron, ultramagnus, build king, jrx and the main cars (speedbreaker, mach alert, wild ride)

Personally, I can't stand Build King. I think Wedge is the only impressive one of the lot, while the rest are bulky and unsatisfying in every mode. Even combined doesn't seem all that impressive. Megatron was pretty unsatisfying for me too, coming after his awesome Transmetal 2 incarnation. His robot mode was nice (a little too organic though. Felt more like a doll than a robot) but his 5 or 8 other modes all seemed kinda' half-assed. I never bought JRX because it wasn't to scale with the others and the train modes clearly looked like barely disguised transformers, though I hear the combined mode is awesome.
For me, X-Brawn attained a quality none of the other toys had, though that didn't necessarily make him the most fun. I'm still voting for Omega Prime.

Finally got round to picking up Prime and Magnus today, there were still tons in the store though, I don't think they'll ever be rid of them. They're both quite fun transformers, but it's definately when combined that they're at their best. Individually I was a little disappointed with Prime, his vehicle mode really sucks (barely seems to stay together) and I wasn't that impressed by any of his robot modes. The basic robot is probably his best, bolting on the extra bits just didn't do much for me. Ultra Magnus is much more solid in vehicle mode and I quite liked his robot modes. He's more chunky in his various robot modes which is what I prefered compared to Prime who seemed a little weedy. As has been said though, they're great when combined, a nice big, chunky robot. Overall, I'm glad I took peoples advice and got them, they'll be staying in Omega Prime mode and standing with the other Transformers on my shelf soon.

Do you guys know about the variations? I know there is a clear blue and clear red omega prime and then there is a "Gold Rim" prime. What do these variations represent and where do you get them? -Ed

The only variations I know of are:
1. Black Super Fire Convoy
This thing looks AWESOME but it's very rare. I have no idea how or when it was available.
2. Omega Prime giftset with exclusive sword
This was an early limited RID release
Never heard of the others though.
