My best guess for the two:
1. Energon = the core series
2. Alternators = prevent Takara from being the ones who make all the money off of the sale of imports to Americans by releasing a version of it (all-plastic) at the same time. Hasbro is usually up to a year behind when it comes to Takara releasing stuff that's in high demand, and I think Hasbro is only trying to make more money by co-releasing Alternators instead of waiting up to a year to release a US version and try to sell to many who already own the Takara version. Their version of Smokescreen will be $40 and made entirely out of plastic, which is crap since you can buy 1/24 scale cars made of die-cast (probably more die-cast than what we'll find on the Takara version) for $10.

I saw a few more Energon protos and was really unimpressed. I truly hope that doesn't become the core series.

It is Hasbro after all, and Energon will most likely become the core series since it'll be much cheaper than the Alternators.

Oy! TF toy lines have become less and less impressive with every release. In my opinon at least. Most of the time, the toy looks like a vehicle (a car for example) with a robot stuffed inside it. The only redeeming (new line) TF I've seen so far is the Alternator Optimus Prime.

I felt that same way until recently. You really should check out some of the new Armadas, like Tidal Wave, Hoist, Skywarp/Thundercracker, Wheeljack, etc.

Energon is too kiddie for me JEEBUS CRIPES That is fug-leeee!!!!! He that prime looks like he stole the legs off of a Tallgeese III. Alternators all the way! Shax, I've heard a lot of good things about the Tidal Wave Tf. I want to have at least 3 TF's for my collection (G1 Prime, Alternator Prime, and ), and the Tidal Wave sounds juicy, but for now I cannot afford it and it's not on my TO BUY list...for now anyway ;D Can anyone post pics?

Most sources are saying that Prime figure is incorrectly transformed, and that that's the head for his larger mode on his smaller body. I'm hoping it'll look better when done correctly.
As for pics, I'm sorry to say that's hard for me to do at the moment, but I'll try.

Okay, quick review of current TF series: Armada: Hasbro/Takara's current main transformers series, like RID, Beast Wars, and G1 and G2 before it. The Unicron Battles: A subset of Armada. Basically, the second half of the Armada releases. Transformers Universe: A Repaint series running alongside Armada in the US. Energon: The next major Hasbro/Takara series after Armada. Alternaters: Special additional TF series featuring SOC quality updates of G1 characters. Six will be released next year, and more may follow. Optimus Prime Anniversary Edition: One shot update of G1 Prime that will be quite big and expensive. It may or may not contain diecast. Reissues/Commemorative edition: Rereleases of G1 in Japan and as a Toys R Us exclusive in the US Smallest Transformers (or whatever they're called): Completely random Japanese release of tiny scaled G1 toys. Heroes of Cybertron/ACT (not to be confused with the world's best comic strip ) PVC figures

Yuck. Worse than I imagined. And it means that oversized chest in the first pic is correct for that mode How could they get it so wrong after they did so well with Armada??

I don't know about that Energon design either Maybe it will be easier to end the purchasing spree when Armada completes.

Yeah. Just saw those today. I'm excited about Scorpanok and maybe the Unicron repaint, but I must say I found the rest REALLY disappointing. I wonder if they're continuing with the mini-con gimmick, since only the Star Sabor repaint is shown.
