Most of the diecast went much higher than I expected. Some pieces selling for more than you can easily get if you have a little patience. I only grabbed one lot that was on my list, but the others I won were spur of the moment bids as the price was low and I knew I would regret not bidding on the items when so low.
So I'm not disappointed as there is always the regular channels to obtain these toys. Someone on TBDX said it well in that prices probably went so high due to the monumental situation, and folks wanting to say that they had acquired items during this once in a lifetime occasion.

I was very satisfied with how it went for my stuff. Two pickups were deliberate, and one was a spur of the moment, but I think they were all decent prices (better than expected, anyway).
Of course there were some insane sales also. I mean, $550 for a Gigan?! You don't even need patience for that one, as you can get deadstock cheaper right now. And $1300 for the Machine robo lot was also out there - at least a couple of people wanted instant collections of them.
There were some very good deals also, but they were generally held to the less popular/obscure series. One exception being SG-01 for $600 - box wasn't great, but I was sorely tempted on that one. Unfortunately wanted to save cash for my real wants later on.
LOL, SG01 for $600 and Gigan for $550. Upsidown market there I think.

Amen on that Gigan. I was at one point considering replacing my beater, but when the price went where it did, i was just laughing.

-a video is processing as I write.
In a nutshell-- there is a GIANT spread in price for quality vs used and common. Common toys went for a steal, so to speak in the diecast world.
GA-50 which I predicted, went for 5k.
You could buy two Laserions, a DX and an ST for $100.
You could purchase a Bullmark Robo Kress for $2000.
You could purchase a Valkyrie by Takatoku, say an armoured set for $200 complete and great condition in box.
NEW vinyl was dead. $500 dollar lots going for $75.
Special Tin broke the bank....

Glad to meet you in person finally, ED! And a few other robot board members I hadn't met yet. Congratulations on some great scores! Glad I got a few items at a good price, but stayed away from the biggie stuff.
Thanks for tossing that vintage Black Raideen GA-09 my way during preview time. Awsome item! I wanted...but couldn't justify the extra purchase. I think it DID go for a decent price. Wish I had stayed for today's stuff. I bet the crowd was very different, and bigger on Sat.
I WAS thinking , and said to Ed during FRI, "Man, Myles is going to be hopping after this! " We'll have to meet up down south this winter/spring when I do a Southern road trip.

Kingboy - you can't get too frustrated with yourself, man. I was there chatting with you - the problem we had online is that you had absentee bidders, guys on the floor, plus the internet sites. We didn't know who we were bidding against really. Just beacuse something sold low doesn't mean the next increment would have won. You could have been bidding against an absentee bidder or someone on the floor that had a higher celing - and all you did by not bidding was just not drive the price up for the other guy.
And with some of those increments being $50 or $100 the next bid increment would have moved something from "good deal" to "too much". You can't bum yourself out too much my friend.

Agreed on the bidding issues. There's just no substitute for being there.
The coolest thing is that there is NO cutoff on a lot if the bidding is still going. If a bidding war gets going, there's no clock like ebay w /sniping. If you wanted and item bad enough, you WERE going to get it,as you could just keep bidding until someone else gave up. That was fun to watch a few times.

bt1 the SG-01 went to Alan. With so many diecast collectors there in person, it didn't garner bids on the floor when you know who you are bidding against. It was a fluke. Also, I think a ton of people in the hobby will be crying when the lots arrive. Pieces are missing and they were loved/used. SO.... if they expected MIB toys that compare to MIB New old stock sales records, then there will be sorrow. You can't equate, or shouldn't try to equate, a Yahoo Japan sale of new old stock to the Morphy sales. Each lot deserved to be inspected in person. Then it should be noted that there was a GIANT advantage to being there in person. I noted a distinct lag in online bidding getting to auctioneer with the hammer. On more than one occasson I heard a "well, I see that........[murmer] late [murrmer]......my hammer is final." I felt that personal contact with the auctioneer helped close auctions faster or prolong the hammer as it best suited "the floor". E

Great job on the videos Ed (and so soon after). Thanks. Congrats on those pickups! Yeah, was chatting with Myles and others on how low some of those big vinl lots were selling. Your made me a little nervous on my wins with your comments, though Guess I'll see in a couple of weeks.

Don't mind me. Its just sour grapes. Things could have gone down VERY differently if the sequence was different. As much as I enjoyed it and I entered knowing that I would likely walk out of this empty handed, in the back of my mind I was truly hoping to score some things that I really wanted. After spending hours upon hours perusing the online catalog, making detailed lists, updating the lists, taking the day off to follow the action, and so on, I just feel pretty empty after the time investment. Its probably all for the better anyway - my wallet will thank me. Yeah, that's the ticket. Ed, some great pickups. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous. I WAS thinking , and said to Ed during FRI, "Man, Myles is going to be hopping after this! " We'll have to meet up down south this winter/spring when I do a Southern road trip. Anytime, my man, anytime. You have an open invitation.

Nice pickups, Ed. I was so tempted to bid on the vinyl with the nice prices I kept seeing, but I had my eye on the diecast. I did break down and grab a pile of Ultraman vinyls though.

Sketch, I was in the same boat, but when I saw the "in the know" guys raising eyebrows at the low prices, I knew i had to get a piece of the action, but I wasn't willing & able to throw much out for the vinyl, so I repeatedly got blown out of the water. Finally got Lot # 93 with some cool mixed hero types. I wasn't into the monsters, but I know that's the hot thing, so most of the Hero type lots went cheep cheep cheep. I got my lot for $100. Now I gotta find out who/what they are , LOL.

You guys shoulda seen a couple vinly lots Ed jumped on. Hysterical, cuz we all though he was only after diecast.
Some crazy rubber dinosaur comes up,... the auctioneer is about to close the lot, ....everyone's looking around to see who's gonna go for it???!!....and BING! Ed's twitchy arm shot up, and for like a full minute , a bidding war starts up! Jimbo Maitland is coaching from the sideline, and Ed's eyes get big as saucers, ..and he wins. Hysterical. Like was said , you had to be there. Heehee.

Hey Ed, thanks for those videos. The red king is a beauty, and I know it is hard to find. But that godzilla is deep lust!! I love a beat up beautiful toy. If I were a godzilla guy, I'd have been fighting you for it. Talk about one of a kind. Glad to see it isn't going in a closet somewhere. Feel free to show it off some more...
Congrats!

Nice pickups, Ed. I was so tempted to bid on the vinyl with the nice prices I kept seeing, but I had my eye on the diecast. I did break down and grab a pile of Ultraman vinyls though. I think that this happened to 90% of the people. It took balls to bid on the Vinyls because most people were chasing diecast. I was just fortunate to have been able to bow out of diecast bidding & concentrate on vintage vinyl. P.S. There was a tremendous auction 1 month ago as I understand things. Some auction house sold about every tin that there was....and it zapped old-timer's budgets. E

That, and prices have always been out of my range for 'very fair' pricing. I had long studied and enjoyed the vinyl collecion of Jim Chapin, rest his soul. Then I'd been an admirer of certian Left Coast collectors. -Pieces had come my way in a drip. This auction, though, represented some great value..... I am very appreciative .
