the number of variants of the Golion DX will make your head spin. even with the liscensed versions. i used to be blown away at how many slightly different features each one had. the original Popy release is different from the Y&K release which is different from the Godaikin which is different than Bandai Taiwan version. i used to try and swap parts for the different ones to fix them up when i was younger. that is when i started noticing all the subtle differences because the parts would end up being incompatable.

Im much more readily available to spend money on something I can display and look at than put away, but Im looking

Since I'm new here, I should probably contribute something, so here's a photo of my less-than-mint original Bandai (C1981) diecast 11- inch GoLion/Voltron (unfortunately, taken with a crappy less-than-mint laptop camera):

Wow, these are beautiful. I'm curious why the knockoffs have the differing belt badges.. is it a mark of identity thing, or an easy way to make a bootlegger's knockoff seem unique?
What's a good source for bootleg lionbots? Is it pretty much an ebay thing, or do the bootlegs pop up anywhere else?

Pretty much on ebay but I may list some in the for sale section here soon.
I think the changing belt buckles was a way to differentiate their bootlegs from the original. By far the coolest attempt, and my favorite, is the Version 3 Diamond Belt where they not only changed the star belt to diamond, but elongated the Black Lion's chest crest into a point and added the chevrons to the pelvis. That took some mold work because those parts are in diecast. I show this in the first post in this thread.

I've love to see someone attempt to catalog all the various bootleg versions, and from where they originated, but I have a feeling that'd require intimate knowledge of the Chinese factory scene, or at least the language and local sellers. Related, too bad there isn't a source for red/green heads yet, I've got an original D that's missing both of em!

Well at least all the Diecast Metal Lionbots all come from 1 factory in Taiwan. I do know that. Actually most of the later versions of the lion Voltron were built in the same factory while Bandai held licensing rights. But yes it would be awesome to catalog each one.
