Being somewhat new to Transformers. I have been impressed with the new Masterpiece prime.  After reading Fenrir72,s passionate review, do I stick with the Takara reissues of Prime and smokescreen? It is so confusing on ebay to understand the differences between the Japanese and USA versions.  Thanks for the help! |

If you want quality...be prepared to pay a lot of MULLAH(Yen or $ US)! The Japanese Convoy's aura is simply STUNNING! Being that the JP market is focused on 15year olds +, you get the whole lock, stock and barrel. Just looking at the box.........'nuff said! I only wish that if possible, we can go back in time back in the mid 80's when both U.S. and Jp versions were IDENTICAL! It started to change when Ultra Magnus was released without the aluminum faceplate and the Power Master Prime which got the cruddy paint job. So go kimosabe............buy one today....the Convoy is sure worth the investment....childhood memories to rekindle again!

Now for the difference to help you check ebay.
MP Prime Box
Takara: Black box with prime box art at the front and pictures of the toy at the back. Labeled MP-Convoy (inside of box includes a carboard trailer).
Hasbro: Window type box, you can readily see the toy.
As for the Toy itself
Takara: Long smokestacks
Hasbro: Short smokestacks, and battle damaged colors.
For Smokescreen box
Takara: Window type box, labeled BT-01 Smokescreen
Hasbro: Window type box labeled Alternator Smokescreen, box bigger than the Takara version.
As for the toy
Takara: With die cast parts (car's body), blue metallic paint.
Hasbro: All plastic. Blue color is injected to the plastic.

These two know what they are talking about. I was there when they purchased their Prime. Just to prove how bad@$$ these Takara versions are, it didn't take 1 hour for two whole cases of Takara MP Primes to be sold out at the store we buy from. |
