Let me get this off my chest........BEASTWARS SUCKS! Sigh....now on to my rant. When the CGI Beastwars show and toylines were released, I thought....YEAH, transformers reborn.....all the better. I expected some beast modes similar to the Pretenders. To my horror.....they all looked liked freaks of nature, forced combination of organic and inorganic. I was disappointed! Another lame attempt by Hasbro to capitalize on the LEGEND of the earlier era of transforming warriors. Heck, don't even get to the sorry attempt of the Beastmachines series! It was only when Simon Furman who took over the scripts in the last few episodes of Season One, that the show picked up some interest. Remember when we were shocked into the realization that the world of the Beastwars was planet Earth circa 4 million years? Anyway, on to my topic. I really never liked the Beastwars toyline until I got a gander at the Japanese version of LioConvoy. Now that was a transform mode befitting the legendary leader of the Cybertrons! ( Turning Optimus into a monkey just seems.........insulting). The lion mode was great except the part once you transform him.....his face looked..........flat. And his feet looked.........like a cavemans'. Anyway I bought one together with Galvatron and Megastorm....another re-issue from Gen 2. I said to myself.....no more okay! Then came the time when my contemporary Malvin showed me another Convoy................BigConvoy..! What?! Another sucky Maximal Convoy wannabee? Man was I wrong! In his transform mode of a Mammoth you could see that he was oozing with a majestic aura. Another step from lion to Mammoth...wow! Once I transformed him, it blew my socks off! His face mixed both the classic face with a horned viking helmet, his trunk detaches to become a "big gun", his got crossbow launchers on both legs and is fully poseable. You can manipulate his trunk like that of a real elephant! The best thing is, his got a removable Matrix in him.....way before Masterpiece Convoy. Its a pity that Hasbro didn't release it for an international release, it had style, colors, playability. Fortunately, to the detriment of my wallet, I snagged one for some $ 60. Now, I'm hooked on this Beastwar Neo figure. So what else is new, I got my foot into my mouth by prejudging the Beastwar franchise. Sure I still dislike the "Monkey" Convoys but as a collector.............I recommend to all of you out there to try and find one of this Convoy masterpiece. It doesn't matter if its the Japanese or Korean version, with the exception of the box, both are QUALITY toys you will forever enjoy. So try to find one.
