I recently did a quick review of the D-17 Sub Machine ( robotjapan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Popychogokin&action=display&thread=15810 ). When I was posting in a different thread (Level of Obsession), I mentioned how I'd love to see even pics of common toys. This one has always met that definition in my book (at least in the Shogun Warriors line), although truth be told I haven't seen too many of these lately. Because I always viewed it as common, I didn't think anyone would be interested in discussing it. However, that kind of thinking is counter to what I was saying in the other thread, so I decided to pull it down off my shelf and do a quick photo review. Besides, just because its common, that doesn't mean everyone owns one or knows its features.
The Shigcon Tank is basically a tank with a cool drill accessory. Its got several antennas and gun ports. Two missile launchers are mounted to the sides. One thing you'll notice is that this toy includes that cool multi-colored panel that is present on the other D-17 toys.
Some of the features include retractability of the drill (it pops out really strong when the button is pressed):
Also, with the press of another button, the drill tips down:
In addition, the whole top part can rotate from the tank treads, which are rubber and rotate similar to many other Popy toys.
Its worth mentioning that mine is the Shogun Warriors version. I'm not sure if the Japanese version is any different. I'll have to look in to that and post an update.
Overall, its a decent little toy that it often dismissed as boring. Personally, I "dig" it. I recall a friend owning this when I was growing up, and I always wanted one. Well, now I have one.
