Long time no hear fellas. Since its a slow day at the office.....the proverbial calm before the storm, I'm starting this new thread. I have several Convoys/ Primes so I want to enumerate the differences between my collections.
1. A. U.S 1984: Optimus besides having a colored insruction manual( special mentions to a gray Roller unit ) had virtually no difference to the JP version. My spring mounted guns fired the projectiles the same way as the JP. Face plate mouth guard's aluminum silver wasn't completely colored in full to the left side. Subsequent versions with boxes that took away the place of manufacture had the face plate fully painted on but the label sheet was less firm than the original release.
B. JP 1985: Convoy, black and white....next to useless instruction manual. Same with Roller( purple) and the mouth piece not completely filled on the right side.
C. New re-issue from Takara had a Matrix included and his optics colored blue. New included a battle ax and Megatron gun if you buy the new Starsrcream
2. A. Powermaster Optimus Prime: cruddy mold, made in Thailand, fists in Supermode no painting colors, rough molding cuts, chest/thorax cavity for Hi-Q not painted red and his legs lacked the aluminum finish.
B. Godginrai: come with a Godbomber or sold separately. Supermode fists painted, thorax cavity and the legs have the aluminum finish. Mold colors much better....including the blue parts.
C. Latest release had Godginrai's optics blue, retractable fists and diecast front cab. Includes Godbomber and vacuum chrome finish on the legs and the hip joint had some extra molding patterns. Ginrai figure had a chrome finish on his backpack.
D. Powermaster Apex Armor. molding nearly the same except for the wheel screws.
3. RID: Optimus Prime, noticed a different, plainer look of the plastic finish, colors and chrome all over not as sharp and the molding not as neat. English voice clips. I read somewhere that once combined with Ultra Magnus, he say Optimus/Magnus....combine! My version doesn't say this.
CarRobot: Fire Convoy had harper colors, ladder more metallic looking, neat molds. Once combined with GodMagnus, some special edition packages had an energon? sabre. Japanese voice clips.
4. Armada: Cruddiest, cheapest paint jobs and molding, no voice clips, clunky remote interface with the "auto" transformation. Arms don't rotate ( heard that newer versions had a full rotate arm feature.) Noticed extra painting of aluminum silver at the rear end of trailer.
Micron Legend: Prime Convoy: Same cruddy molding ( hey I call a spade a spade....whether japanese or american), sharper colors, gold, replaced with bright yellow and the transform interface was much better. I noticed that Convoy's feet had an extra yellow finish but lacked the silver at the rear end trailer. Prime/ Sparkplug had a glossy color paint job as opposed to the U.S version.
5. Energon Optimus Prime, cruddiest plastic ever, had a mouth.....rectified in newer versions, dull paint jobs. The mini vehicles suffered the same fate, especially the yellow drill machine....bleeerch! :oOne thing got it going was that it possessed a full array of sound effects!
Superlink Grand Convoy, great dark blue plastic (classic!) ;D, chrome chest plating, better and detailed painting on the windshield, windshield wipers and the chest plate has an aluminum finish once flipped open for the super mode. FLAT mouth piece ( GREAT ). The down side............NO SOUND EFFECTS except for the Matrix flash.....! bohohoo! Mini vehicles had a more decent plastic moldings and paintings!
I hoped you found my rant most informative....thats just how much I love TRANSFORMERS!
