I don't know if there had been any threads about these model kits. I had two when I was a kid (Raideen, and Grendizer) while I had my first Great Mazinger jumbo (the first Mattel version, with detachable Condor).
Anyway, I thought I'd like to see if anyone here still has these Monogram Shogun Warriors model kits. I see them at ebay from time to time; perhaps someday I'll get around to gathering a few Monogram kits of Great Maz, Raideen, and Grendizer (I'll pass on the Getter "Raider").
Anyone has these? Pics? Painted? ;D
(PS: I'd also like to see if anyone also has the old Bandai JET-PILDER, and BRAIN CONDOR model kits... they're similar to the Mechacolle model kit line). Forgive me for asking too much-- ---I'm a self-masochist for Sensory Overload. ;D

I'm actually stalled on the Mazinger. I was about half way through cleaning the parts after removing from the sprues, and I lost interest. I'll get back to it eventually.
I had all of these when I was a youngster, but I ended up destroying them in some way or another. I think fireworks had some involvement with that part. I'll probably get the others eventually. The Gaiking was kinda funky, and Raider (Getter Robo 2) was cool, but I think that the Grandizer (Grendizer) was my favorite of these.

I was always tempted by these, but I never followed through. I do have a pic of a nicely painted one, though. I'll dig for it and post it later.

I believe the best ones of them all were Grendizer and Raideen... because they were molded in great sculpts and didn't have the weird brick feet like the others. I look at the Raideen mono now, and I can't help laughin at the sight of a string attached to his bow. ;D
I wonder what happened to this model kit line: at first these were in toy stores almost everywhere, and then suddenly they disappeared- like I had fallen asleep and missed them over the years... ...I guess Monogram figured these wouldn't be so popular, so they stopped making them.

Not sure if you are aware, but I was informed many years ago that the design for these was based on old battery-operated toys released in Japan. As such, the feet likely held the batteries and/or mechanics (wheels, gears, etc.) in the original toys. Maybe it wasn't the best sculpt to create models off of, but c'est la vie.

Aaaaah, so That explains the brick feet, then. With the weight of batteries, it would make sense to place them in the Feet instead of in the upperbody area. One of you stated that Fireworks were involved... ...may we see that in Slow-motion? ;D zozo-Magengar ... because they were molded in great sculpts and didn't have the weird brick feet like the others. Now THAT's the way to paint a Monogram Shogun Warrior model! NOT the way they look in their cheezy boxart renditions. ;D

I have the Jet Pilder, Brain Condor, and the Great Mazinger with the base... but none of them have been assembled yet. Someday...

Likewise on not having any built yet, but have a couple. I actually have much more of the original Bandai Japanese boxed sets that the Shoguns were based on. I LOVE the painted artwork on the Japanese boxes, but MAN, they don't represent the doofiness of the model inside AT ALL! Lol.
I've also got a few of the Shogun Warriors Puzzles, but that's OT. The silly photo pics on the Shogun model boxes is more cute and nostalgic now. But not as enticing for a kid. The kits still show up occaisonally at swap meets, toy shows, flea markets. Gotta cruise around for em, and yeah, cheep on ebay usually.
The great thing about most of them, is they actually have spring loaded, missle and fist firing gimmicks, metal axles for wheels, and real rubber treads for the Getta Posieden, and Bear ship.

Would someone be so kind as to post a scan of the instructions for the Japanese version of the Mazinga kit? I've been curious since I was a little kid what the motor assembly in the kit was supposed to be!
My assumption is that there were long slats that extended down through the slots in the legs and feet, that made the figure 'wobble-walk'. And that the arms swung back and forth as well, but could be posed.
I've got Monogram's Raydeen and Mazinga kits, and I'm tempted to build them in the funky color schemes Monogram cooked up. (Why 'magenta faces'?) But it might be fun to try to retcon their lost mechanical elements, if I could find a similar toy to steal the parts from...

If I could have those kits again, I'd paint them in their usual anime colors but with a metallic touch. Just like that Getter1 there which KingboyD posted. zozo-mag

You know - Considering the colors and patterns used on the Monogram box art buildups, and the flair on Raider's chest, I think Monogram gave the kits to one of their shop's 'model car guys' to do the buildups. These things kind of scream 1970s hot rod.
I'm going to build my Mazinga as per the box art. I figure I can find a bazillion properly-colored Mazingers. This is a Shogun Warrior nostalgia piece. Mine has a box nice enough to display along with it, too. Context assured. :-)
