well they never really had true liscence on the cars.. they had look alike cars.. companies do that all the time.
like Grand Theft Auto.. not the actual cars but look alikes.

I imagine they may have been a lot of problems.. with the liscence holders. Like in games.. with actual liscenced cars.. you never really see damaged models because they don't like the public to have bad images of their product.. you'd be suprised how finicky those liscence holders can be.
