I have Smokescreen and Lambor Binaltech and I think they're awesome....more as display pieces that is.
The transformation on these can be somewhat tricky aligning all the pieces together. I remember as a kid that I could transform things with no prob, within a matter of a minute. Now that I'm older and wiser (read: scared), I take my sweet time transforming these things so that I don't scratch up the paint. When I say tricky, I really mean tricky because the engineers that designed these things really thought it through in terms of each mode and the alignment *has* to be perfect or else it will not sync up in car mode.
Anal-collector-self aside, I think that these robots are *the* definitive Transformers that have ever been put out. I display my Binaltech in car mode and plan to buy the cheaper Alternator versions for the robot mode. The car modes are so seamless that my friend who is a real-life car designer thought it was "just" a car toy.
Good diecast content too. Can't wait for Dead End, Tracks and Meister.

I've got the whole series so far, along with Alternator Smokescreen and Sideswipe.
Very nice toys, though BT Lambor's diecast placement really really bothers me. Basically, the front half of the car is diecast, which means you have a diecast hood rubbing against the diecast car parts attached to the legs when in vehicle mode. Already have several chips there.
On the flipside, BT Hound's diecast placement is SUPERB. There is almost no possibility of noticeable chippage barring dropping/throwing/taking a chisle to the toy.
If you're hesitant about the line, I'd suggest seeking out an Alternator. You get the toy-minus-diecast for about a third of the price, so you can see if you care for the transformation scheme, sculpting, etc.

If a Nissan Z ever becomes part of this line.. I'll really need to get the japanese version!
Great looking cars.. Great looking robo. I tip my hat to the engineers and designers.

Go after the MPC Prime first since he's got the more SOC Superbot feel to him... IMO, you can display him with your SOCs and he seems to fit in with the 70's-80's retro theme of the SOCs.
The BTs are also works of art but just seem out of place in my nostalgia for oldskool toys. I still like them though but I display them separately from my SOCs and other diecast gattai robots.

Also, I sugest you skip alternators and go Binaltech. I prefer the metal models with PAINT over molded plastic, but thats just me...

Are they worth collecting? Any one has a piece or so that can do a review of? I only miss Streak, so I can tell you they are great pieces. The heads do resemble the original characters very much. The sculpting is very recognizable. If you own MP-Convoy, (wich I think you do ) they display very nicely together. Here is a gallery with very good images. www.tfkenkon.com/collection/act216/Edit: Here is a better link: tfkenkon.com/collection/bt-at.php

Bill Didn't get a clear look at them, but I've heard Alternators Silverstreak and Hound are vast improvements, appearance-wise, over the last two. Someone who owns both Hounds remarked that they look almost identical, I think...once I can find them easily I'll pick one up and report back. Finding Alternators is actually harder for me than finding BT stuff, due to a nice import store near here. But yeah, when comparing the Smokescreens in person (it's hard to see the differences in pictures) there's a noticeable difference. Sideswipe has a less noticeable difference though, due to having either a layer of enamel paint or a layer of gloss over all the car parts. I think Smokescreen was the "lemon" of the Alternators line.

Are they worth collecting? Any one has a piece or so that can do a review of? Yes Binaltech transformers are worth collecting. But this really isn't considedered a SOC. Until I see Bandai make a SOC transformer I'll call it a chogokin this belongs to the transformer thread.

No differences except the numbers. I'd consider waiting since Smokescreen is going to be re-released as #1 and #2 which comes with new body cladding and a shoulder missile.

The different numbers have different driver names on the rear passenger windows, and the #7 has a small pig picture on the back of each sideview mirror. Also, a lot of dealers were selling the #7 as "rare", though I believe the case shipments contained equal amounts of both.

I, on the other hand, think that Binaltech discussion belongs on this forum.
After all, if not for the success of SOC, Takara would have never designed and released these bots.
They are, in terms of quality and overall design, closer (but not quite there yet , excep for MP Prime) to ou beloved SOC than regular transformers.

sure lets just move all the BT transformers to SOC forum.. Might as well include alternator since they are the same thing except lack of metal. Diecast Gundams ,Masterpiece Voltron,Masterpiece Alpha too. IF I'm wrong the mods won't move this at all.

No offence, but I think this thread should be in the Transformers section, or at least the Chogokin one.

Agreed - however good they look, however much diecast they contain or however much they might share in common with SOCs, Binaltech and Alternators are definitely Transformers and belong here.

Guys, i finally got my whole BT series on my hand today!! I have nothing to say about this toy line because what all of your guys had said are PERFECTLY CORRECT. The toys are simply amazing, heavy and exquisive. It took me 15 minutes to transfer the BT-01 smoke screen, and guess what, it is one of the best looking transformer toys that you can ever image!! Thank you folks so much for advising this toyline to me and finally make me purchasing the whole series. BT-06 and BT-08 looks VERY BEAUTIFUL from the preview, that one is a must have for sure. BT-06: BT-08: If anyone still dont have it, grap one from stores or whatever while it is still around, you can not afford to miss this line even if you are NOT transformer fans.
