Swoop looks awesome.. just kind of wish he had the red instead of the blue.. although I think the blue is inline with the Diaclone version.
but I agree.. Grimlock is too small.. and hes way too thin.. In Dinosaur mode his head is too big and legs way too small.
sigh.. yeah a bt version would be cool or even a re release of the original molds

When will Takara accept the fact that the G1 designs are iconic and don't need to be re-designed every season to co-incide with the latest tv show. Prime's design is just as good now as it was 20 years ago and just as recognizable as say Superman or Batman. Just give us MP versions of G1 charactures like Grimlock, Megatron, Ultra Magnus, and a tonne others. Just because you name the figure Optimus Prime of Grimlock doesn't mean that the figure "is" Optimus Prime or Grimlock, there is only one true version of each characture and they were all Generation one.

Did anyone notice Grimlock has another robot head within the T-Rex head? Could this mean the Dinobots could be a combiner team? That would be so awesome, we can only pray!

Heh, I don't know if I totally agree with you on that one, Chen. I think it's important for a company to keep coming out with new and hopefully innovative products to make them fresh for each new generation of viewers and to keep their loyal fans interested. It's the only way for them to sell more product and make money. Most of the mainstream fans probably wouldn't buy a new G1 Optimus every year if it was pretty much the same, but a newly designed one would be more enticing. Unfortunately, with the newer designs, some of them are pretty ugly. I also don't know if one can say that the Transformers G1 designs are iconic at this point, the company hasn't really tried to establish that as hard as DC and Marvel have with their properties. Even Spongebob is more of an icon than the ever changing Optimus. TF's marketing machine just really hasn't made the push it did in the 80's. Then again, DC and Marvel have had their characters around for almost 2 generations. Any attempts by DC and Marvel to 'revitalize' or 'refresh' their properties have been met with roars of protest by loyal fans. Change is not easy. Even changing the costume or haircut of one of these guys will cause floods of emotional mail to the editors. BUT... do a spin-off title that takes place in another world, a 'new generation' if you will, and the fans will readily accept the changes to the myth, knowing that their original childhood heroes have been unmolested in their original titles. For example, see any of Marvel's new 'Ultimate' titles and also Gundam. I think it is important for a character to change and grow as time goes by. Who wants to read about the Joker vs Batman time and time again? I'd really rather see newer characters and life changing events occuring in the hero's life in order to breath some new life into their character (see recent issues of Amazing Spider-Man and you'll see what I mean) than just have them rehashing the same stuff over and over again. To old timers like us, I guess we'll always see Optimus as a semitrailer, but a young child whose first contact with TF is watching Beast Wars on Saturday isn't going to see our G1 Optimus as the true version but probably Optimus Primate. He'll probably think G1 is ugly and prefer the Gorilla as that's the one he's spent the most time with. One day, who knows, but there may be a Masterpiece Beast Wars Optimus Primate with synthetic hair. But I definitely agree with you about those Masterpiece Versions... let's see some more come out, Takara! It's been a year here!

I can understand where your coming from on how you have to keep the line fresh for new buyers. I'm saying that when you think of Prime, Megatron, Grimlock, or Starscream, you think of the G1 versions not the new Prime that comes out every year (that would be like changing Supermans costume every couple years, and we all know how that turned out when they split him into Red and Blue Superman ). Takara can make a new line every year to attract new buyers, but they should not forget their core audiance which are G1 fans. The perfect way for them to fix this is to have a seperate line for mature buyers taking the G1 designs an updating them like MP Prime. At first that's what I thought they were doing with the Binaltech/Alternators line, but once Grimlock was shown to be a Mustang that went down the drain. I guess I just wish they would make new designs based on old charactures, but so far there is only MP Prime with nothing else in sight.

the G1 visions of them is still better and should be improved upon by modern articulation and should be more faithfull to the asthetics.
