If they have die-cast... How come they are so much more affordable than SOC's. Heck, there are some SOC's with barely any die-cast. What's up with that?

I think the pricing is partly due to the volume of materials as the SRC figures are smaller than the SoC figures I've seen/read about. SRC Mazinger Z is approximately 5.3 inches tall.

good review
i find it silly that bandai decided to sell Mazinger z and the weapon set separately, sure they are trying to maybe cut some expenses but in the end your paying almost like a SoC cost. i hope they release a pack that includes both set.

It's purely speculation but I think part of the rationale for SRC Mazinger Z's separate accessory set is to offer a "basic" SRC option(Mazinger Z for 3500 yen) which is less expensive than the more fully equipped SRC Great Mazinger(4500 yen). Additionally, since the accessory pack has two pairs of rocket punch effect parts, I believe you can use one pair for Mazinger Z and the other pair for Great Mazinger. I suppose this is a way for Bandai to persuade people to buy both figures and the accessory set.

Shshshshsh! Don't give Bandai any Hints, or they'll bombard us with "Re-________" in This line like they do in the SOC line! ;D zozo-magengar good review i find it silly that bandai decided to sell Mazinger z and the weapon set separately, sure they are trying to maybe cut some expenses but in the end your paying almost like a SoC cost. i hope they release a pack that includes both set.

If I knew for sure that Bandai was coming out with a different weapons set for Mazinger Z that included the Jet Pilder, Iron Cutters, Drill Missiles, and updated Scrander, I would've considered not purchasing the current one and just getting the new one. Some of us like the later version stuff more than the originals.
I still have hopes for it to be released later...

well the reason that it cost 6,000+ yen is because of the ova movie it bring, if it didn't had that maybe it would go around less than 5,000+ yen. its a nice figure and a great looking rendition of Mazinkaiser, but im still not crazy on the idea it has guns.
i guess you will have to get another mazinger z weapon set for an extra rocket punch effect since kaiser does not bring his on.

Well the weapon pack does have 4 effects so thats enough for all 3 mazingers and a grendy when they make him Or you chould just have great maz doing his thunder break while the other two do rocket punch

Nice looking figure but when put together with it's other predecessors it sticks out like a sore thumb, it's like going from a 69' Mustang to the Space Shuttle.

To rodimus1138: Did you really want to tear off my head over my pronunciation or were you simply delving into hyperbole? For a little while yes. jkjk In all honesty is did annoy me a bit but otherwise it was a good review Hehe, I'll just say that trying to remember to say the name that way throughout the review was likely just as awkward to me as it was annoying to people who had to listen to it. Back on topic, I don't totally mind repaints/retools of an existing figure mold as long as it doesn't delay progress of a product line's introduction of new figures. I would definitely like to see an Ashura Mazinger SRC figure based on the Mazinger Z mold. If such a thing were to happen, it would be neat though probably unlikely, to have the studs on Ashura Mazinger be made of diecast metal. Nice looking figure but when put together with it's other predecessors it sticks out like a sore thumb, it's like going from a 69' Mustang to the Space Shuttle. I'm a fan of the Mazinkaiser and Mazinkaiser SKL designs, though I do agree that the Mazinkaiser SKL, and Mazinkaiser for that matter, do deviate significantly with respect to aesthetics with more spikey/bladey protrusions as well as proportions dominated by broader shoulders and longer legs. I do think that the 6080 yen price tag for SRC Mazinkaiser SKL is a bit high but not unreasonably so. My gut feeling when seeing the photos of the figure and what accessories are included is that it should be a 5500 yen figure at the most if I use the Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger figures as pricing landmarks. On the other hand, I'm of the same mind as droutmaster: If it wasn't for the fact that SKL is tied into an upcoming OVA that seems to have some healthy anticipation, I doubt Bandai would have made the move to price it that way. It's just a business decision, I suppose. It's nice to see what appears to be a telescoping grip for the Ganzantou. I also like the way the figure has a "full" Breast Trigger component for displaying as well as two separate Breast Trigger pistol components for posing. I do like multi-task components to reduce the amount of extra bits and pieces for figures but designing something that small with such functionality would probably lead to compromises both in appearance and function.

What's worse news about that Mazinkaiser release is that it's not just 6080 yen, it's also a Tamashii web shop exclusive. That means we'll have to pay a third party markup on the retail price if any of us outside of Japan want it.
I'll pass on this unless Maiznkaiser gets a regular, non-exclusive release without the OVA.

I was just reading up at Ngee Khiong's blog about the SRC Mazinkaiser and on one hand, I saw that there's a DVD with episode 1 of Mazinkaiser SKL so I'm okay with the price tag now, however, as quinjester said, it's a Tamashii web shop exclusive!
I'm really not a fan of Bandai's prolific forays into making their products Tamashii web shop exclusives. Also, it's called a "starter pack", which could just refer to the inclusion of the DVD but I wonder if it may also mean that there are going to be add ons via accessory pack later on.
I'm not totally opposed to Tamashii web exclusives but I feel that often Bandai makes products that should be regular releases into exclusives such as many S.H. Figuarts products, though not all since I do have SHF N-Daguba-Zeba.

My gut tells me this is just an initial "early" release to entice people to buy that DVD that comes with it. I think we all remember how terribly Shin Mazinger did in sales.
Odds are this will get a mass-release after the fact.
