Great review, Gold!
The styrofoam base that came with my SRC Mazinger Z also has the paint flaking issue. Just like yours, Gold, my base had flaked already within the bag before I even removed it from the packaging.
I'm eagerly awaiting for the arrival of my SRC Great Mazinger but I do think it's a shame that the head sculpt is so off in proportions compared to the rest of the figure.

Looks like it is an SOC Mazinkaiser SKL.....bit it looks to be a Tamashii (web) special? Ugh. You know what that means in terms of price. Hope I'm wrong.

The one in the center is a statue made looong ago. The other two, I'm sad to say, are the same SRC figure. One is just closer to the camera than the other.

they are the same "the left and right" .. i don't think it's a Good Strategy for Bandai to announce a SOC Mazinkaiser SKL for the time being .. "to market the SRC one" .. if they do.. people would most likely skip the SRC one.

Gold, I LUV your review! Folks we got a new Toyopsy'er in the House! ;D I don't mind Great Maz's head size, I'm used to it. As for attempting a "Double Thunderbreak effect", hey, that's what I have two nostrils for... I'll sneeze-freeze two good-sized boogers and harden them as "Thunderbreaks! ;D The base paint chipping, No Problem: just resin-cast my own custom base however I want it... BadaBING! ;D I'll read more of the review later this evening. Thanks!!! zozo-Magengar

Actually they almost did, the model kit i think was release at the end of august 2009 and the SoC gx-49 was release at the beginning of September 2009 i think it was like a difference of 1 or 2 weeks a part. sure not a same time but for me when the SoC version got release it totally forgot the model kit version.
If is Bandai doing this kind of things i wouldn't be surprise they release both mazinkaiser skl on SRC and SoC almost at same time, the question is which one will get overshadowed?.

I just spoke to Bandai's Singapore distributor. The SRC's should be in shops here this weekend! \(^0^)/

Wouldn't surprise me if Mazinkaiser SOC was announced in the next few months. All Bandai is doing is repeating what they did with the old Godaikins and Chogokin figures, having a more expensive DX line while the SRC's are the new ST line.

Thanks guys. excellent review gold, true i see that Great Mazinger's head and forearms are kinda bit small. can i request a comparison shot of the Mazinger model kit versions wit the SRC version? Thanks Droutmaster, but I don't have any Mazinger model kits. Thanks Newtype. Sorry to hear about the flaking styro base, guess it's not an isolated case. Tsktsk. Gold

i just got a hold of the mazinger. I must say that it is actually fairly impressive with weight and quality. Vs the revoltech, much much better as the plastic seems to be better. Is it just me or is revoltech plastic a bit sticky? Well the mazinger is slightly taller and heavier. Now this is one I can really play with... good job bandai. Now if you could just stop it with Exclusive B.S.... that will be great

Nah, it wasn't that close. Maybe with the GX-45, but difinitely not with the GX-49. I believe the GX-49 was announced two or three months later. I still remember the pictures of the GX-45 next to the Mecha Collection Shin Mazinger with God Scrander... Update:
GX-45 released in May 2009
Mechanic Collection Mazinger Z (Shin Mazinger) released in August 2009
GX-49 released in September 2009You were absolutely correct bro. ;D }D Actually they almost did, the model kit i think was release at the end of august 2009 and the SoC gx-49 was release at the beginning of September 2009 i think it was like a difference of 1 or 2 weeks a part. sure not a same time but for me when the SoC version got release it totally forgot the model kit version. All Bandai is doing is repeating what they did with the old Godaikins and Chogokin figures, having a more expensive DX line while the SRC's are the new ST line. I have to admit, I'm confused. Bandai makes the SRC right? Isn't it more or less the same scale as the Bandai SOC Mazinger, Great Mazinger. etc.? If so, how would a SOC Mazinkaiser differ from the SRC Mazinkaiser? By the way; has anyone posted this yet-?--

Now if you could just stop it with Exclusive B.S.... that will be great I do notice that some of my Revoltech figures have a bit of a tacky feel for certain plastic parts, though that seems to be more of an issue with the older Yamaguchi figures. I agree with the whole exclusive situation. I really do like the Mazinkaiser SKL design but I think I'm going to pass on it. I simply resent Bandai's penchant for making "normal" characters and designs exclusive products and won't put a penny towards supporting such an exclusive.
