This is my first attempt at making my very own Chogokin. I have loved the Gin Gin design since I was a child. Actually Gin Gin led me to Robot Japan. I was lead here by a custom Gin Gin made by a member here. Acturus. I had to have my own because when I saw his it made me drool. ;D Ever since then i've been a member here. The custom is made from a Soul of Chogokin GX-01 Black Mazinger I got off ebay for cheap. This is my first time painting or using any of these materials so its not perfect but im very happy with the outcome. I will probably not try this ever again because it was extremely nerve wrecking and difficult. Hope everyone likes it. I kinda wish I had used GX-01R because Gin Gin stands a little shorter than Grendizer but it looks alright.

DuuUUUuuude! Your custom Gin Gin really ROCKS! Great job on the detail and paintjob, too! Though he may look "shorter" than Grendy, he's still a mighty fine custom uniquely your very own; and all that work was worth it. If I had the time and patience, and more $$$, I'd start buying some old first-issue SOCs to bash 'em into custom robots-- and for the fun of learning how to make the parts... my dream is to cast repros of robot parts for building cutoms. This, as well as other awesome customs I've seen here at RJ, are very inspirational. Thanks for sharing! zozo-Magengar

Thanks guys. But I made two heads because I wanted to test painting the fine details of the face which was really hard and i knew it wouldnt be perfect. So I painted two heads keeping the best one for the final design. I want to try to do more villain robots but its very time consuming. And expensive. Its a shame bandai wont release more enemy robots.

Thanks! You were my inspiration bro. I tried to make the colors as exact as possible. Messing around with the paint for a while I figured out different color combination's to make it look anime accurate. The star marks was the hard part.

Have you ever tried Molding/Casting? It may not be metal, but at least you'll have some basic robot parts as templates to work from so that you can make your own collection of custom "SOC" Enemy robots later on whenever you're in the mood to add more enemies for Grendy. zozo-Magengar

Yeah i have thought about using molds but I prefer the figure still have diecast. I used this stuff I found on ebay called mix and fix for the extra armor on Gin Gin and to cover the holes for Mazingers breast plates. Its pretty cool stuff. It starts out like a putty but gets hard as stone in about an hour. You can mold it into any shape and once it hardens you can sand it or use an exacto knife to smooth it out. It also adds to the weight of the figure. Gin Gin feels like an Aoshima gokin. I've been thinking about doing another Grendizer enemy. The second bodyguard sent by King Vega. Jira Jira. I dont think it would be as hard as Gin Gin was. If not another Grendizer enemy I would do a Getter Robo G enemy. They all have the basic design of Mazinger since Go Nagai designed them all. So i would probably use GX-01R next time.
