hi guys for what its worth here is my review of the hasbro built to rule lego type toy of optimus prime.
fistly, i was raised on lego-( food would have been better ;D) and ive always seemed to subconciously buy more lego and mega bloks and stuff than anything else.
a lot of people will not like this toy because it is a building blok set, but to me, it is part of the attraction.
the figure comes in a huge box, and is very heavy, inside a few bricks like the head are on display through the box via a clear window.
behind the card which these parts are blistered on to, are a number of bags containing 100+ pieces.some of them very large-like the wheels which are approx 3 1/2 iches across-and theres six of them.
the instruction book is easy to follow, but its a long process.
the first step is to build the trans-skeleton,and this is where you get the first big shock.
several pieces lock together with plugs which have ratcheting joints on them, and it becomes obvious that you are building the basic figure arms body legs.
AND THIS THING IS GOING TO BE HUGE!
each leg is composed of upper and lower leg pieces that are between 3 and four inches long.
you fold the legs up over the body and precede to build the truck onto it.
at this point i realised that this thing does not transform-you build the truck and then take it appart to build the robot.but it doesnt matter.
the basic trans skeleton assembly is the basis of both modes, so you dont have to completely disassemble it.
anyway-some 40 minutes later i had a huge red truck approx 14 inches long, and approx 8 inches high.with room in the cab for 2 x 3/4 inch gi joes.it was like a tonka truck, and the only annoyance was the side pannets which kept falling off.
you also get a little minicon of sparkplug.
i then dissassembled down to the trans skeleton, and folded down the legs.
this was then re built into the robot which didnt use all of the bricks.despite the comical appearance of these things-the reason i like it so much-i love stuff that makes you use your creative mind-the robot is enormous.
from the price and photos i had seen of it i was expecting it to be about 8 inches high-but this thing is more like 16 inches high. it towers over everything else i have, the legs and arms have full articulation and ratcheting joints-its awesome.
another nice touch was that like the normal transformers, the minicon activates the weapons on this too. the two huge guns have firing missiles that are fired by turning a circular arrangement of "nodules" that can only be done by connecting sparkplug and turning him.
these toys are fantastic.if you like value, and playability, i highly recomend these sets, ive not gotten so much enjoyment from anything for a long time.
well made, durable, and enormous, and they make you smile .
check em out.
