It's been a week; I still haven't opened Masterpiece Rodimus. Far too many negative comments and discouraging youtube video reviews make me wonder why I pre-ordered in the first place. Do you want to know what the sad part is? I really like this sculpt and for that matter both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime. I'll keep it sealed until some clever fan figures out how to fix most of the mechanical problems. Huh?!? why get so paranoid & worked up over it? so for now you have three options to choose from: 1) Just keep it MISB. stare & admire at the beauty of the box packaging. you can also look at the back of the box & see all sorts of cool stuf/gimmicks that you can do (if you do open it one day). it's not that hard, if most TF MISBer collectors out there can do it, so can you! 2) Watch Peaugh's youtube MP-09 Rodimus Convoy review over & over & over again. psyche yrself, harden yr resolve mentally. watch it in yr free time. repeats the sequence until one fine day you've finally gain the confidence to take it out & conquer yr fear of transforming it. 3) Last but not least, just take it out & treat it as an oversized Revoltech figure & you'll be fine. just forget abt transforming it, you don't have to. he's alrdy good as it is, as a poseable & anime accurate action figure. ;D

Despite being a huge chunk of plastic, it has all the basic functionality that it requires i.e winnebago mode, parts/weapons storage & battle station mode. When put together with Rodimus it's huge & take a fair amount of space but they're both real nice as display piece. I wholely agree that both of them rock as a display piece, but I still cannot overcome my disappointment about Winnebago combination. I'm referring to how Winnebago front is just a Winnebago shell covering a Winnebago Rodimus. It would have been more Winnebago-win in my book if the vehicle fully transformed into Winnebago car instead, that would be so Winnebago-cool! I dont understand how people complain about this.... what would this toy look like if it could fully transform from one to the other? we;d be swapping out parts or something for sure. Look at the engineering for them to even make this toy to begin with. Your grasping at something impossible... They did the best they could and I think it worked out, other than the crapy flaws of course. I love this thing, its a great display piece and i'll sure be buying the Hasbro version.

If you wanna transform it, you can always watch the videos. I feel no need to ever transform most of my figures unless they are packed in their alt modes

You're right, perfect transformation for MP-09 is something that is downright challenging to design, which is why I was so blown away when initial pics first surfaced. I never watched any of the video/pictorial reviews before I got mine, so I found out about the partsforming first hand while having a whole different idea in my head. By now my disappointment has already worn off... and I'm enjoying this dude a lot more!

It isn't the worst thing that could happen. I just didn't want Rod to break apart in my hands. I'll probably just use him as a display piece.

Despite some of the QC issues, do some of you think its worth getting now? Or just be patient & wait for a Reissue like Convoy or Megatron? Or maybe even a US Habro MP Release? I still can't get over some of these pics, He is lookin' real good! -b

It really depends on your love of Rodimus as a character. He is worth it if you really love this character and this pretty much is the most screen accurate incarnation to grace the toy industry for a long time to come.
But from a straight toy quality standpoint, he is not worth it. Not talking about getting a good bang for the buck, just having the ankle springs to fail, tabs stressed, leg panels connection cracked out of the box is just not a $200 toy should have in the first place. Aside QC, its darn hard to transform him to vehicle mode with all wheels touching the ground, and you can only transform him a few times before certain parts start to break or fail.
If you collect high end transforming toys and never really transform them at all, then MP Rodimus fits your bill. He stands and pose nicely, as long as you don't transform him and stressing the parts. But if you like to transform your toys, and a budgeted collector, then this is definitely not for you. Probably going for the Hasbro version would be a better choice. It will hurt you less, even if problems arise.

Yeah, its unfortunate. I preordered this right away when I heard this announced, without worrying about possibly QC issues. The negative feedbacks didn't sway me to cancel my order either, as I am pretty down on wanting a MP Rodimus figure, be it good or bad. Once I had it in hand, I felt that it wasn't as bad as people say, even though the chest don't lock, iffy backpack lock, loose gun grip, cracked leg panels connection...the QC issues are all there. Rodimus pose great with nice ratchets all over, and joints are overall very sturdy in robot mode. But once I start transform him a few times back and forth, it wasn't a satisfying transformation. Not because its hard (parts are delicate though), but there are many places you can misalign the parts without knowing you did wrong, even when you follow instructions to the T (I can read Japanese on the manual), and watch online video reviews. You still don't get everything flush perfectly, then you start seeing some tabs has stress marks and will break as you do more transformations, one ankle spring failed on me so I have to scratch up some paint while fixing it. Not to mention a lot of superglue trick on tabs to get them snug and work right.
It feels very much like MP05 Megatron in a sense. Its a design marvel, and you can improve the figure by fixing a bunch of small things, but the toy still deteriorates very fast as you transform it a few times, with stress or broken tabs, scratch paint, failing springs...that you don't want to transform it much anymore just fearing you will break more things on it. Its such a shame when a $10 transformer toy doesn't have such issue, but a $200 one does. Then at the end of the day, I pick up a random SOC (GX-54 Tobikage in this instance) and transform it a bit, with everything sturdy, joints clicks perfectly, everything locks nicely, paint don't scratch easy, and it cost me only $80 shipped.
So, MP-09 Rodimus is really only for Rodimus fans or hardcore TF collectors. Otherwise, just wait for the much cheaper Hasbro version.

It's a victim of it's own design, by shoving the Hot Rod transformation gimmick in there it weakened the whole figure. If it was just a straight forward Rodimus Prime toy it would have turned out to be a much simpler and sturdier design. This is where trying to be 100% perfect transformation is a negative and where Bandai would have given you just two modes instead of giving you a hindered four mode toy and thrown in some parts swapping where durability would be compromised. Still it's probably the best Rodimus figure we'll see in our lifetime and I'll for sure get the Hasbro version, I'll just keep it away from my iGear Prime and maybe pose it so it doesn't look so outta scale.

I know its an apples and oranges comparison but compared to your typical Studio Half eye figure this MP Rodimus is simply golden, for 1/2 the price....Its just not your typical indistructible transformer.
I too can't wait for the hasbro version.....I think at the hasbro price this thing is a "steal" (even if it doesn't come with the trailer) just like Grimlock.

A couple of weeks back, I remember reading about the hasbro version being delayed, possible because of all of these QC problem but also because hasbro wasn't able to work out a deal with Toys R Us to make it a exclusive. Perhaps hasbro is also looking at the sales figure on the takara version.

This would be one of the case where reviews & word of mouth can really hurt the sales (but they are legit complains no less). I looked at the Amazon Japan feedback on it the first few days after release, all I see were 1-3 stars. So its not just us foreigners having unreasonable expectations. But it would really suck if that messed up Hasbro's plan on releasing it, not that I need an extra one.
Darn...just checked Amazon again. MP09 averaging 2/5 stars.

So what did I do with my Rodimus? I took it out of the plastic tray and put it into my display case. Thats it. No fumblimg around to check out its features, no bending knees or clicking ratchets. Literally a complete virgin to any movement. And thats how its going to stay. Forever. I dont really ever feel the need to transform my toys, I like them in robot mode anyways and I would sure kick a hole through the wall if I was to move something and it broke.
I am ignorant to its faults therefore I love the toy

Despite all the problems I encountered with my MP09 , I really liked it. If Hasbro can resolve all these issues I will be getting it & leave it in robot mode forever.
