This is SAD! No anime, no manga, no figure... }| I would imagine Grendizer Giga the manga and EX Gokin Grendizer the figure.

Well, but those two are not even close to the level of coolness UFO King Grendizer had...

UFO King Grendizer rules.
I'm glad it wasn't a "Shin"... jeez, that word is so beaten to death already!

Nice live-action cast for the movie! But, Jack Nicholson as "Doctor Hell" NO. FRIGGIN. WAY. I have a better idea who should play the role of "Doctor Hell"..... zozo-mag

But thinking about it, Gary Oldman would make for an awesome Professor Yumi, he's spot on!
...maybe it'd be even more awesome than needed, actually, hehe.

Very interesting! This Latin American audience watched this Mazinkaiser intro video for the first time at a anime music concert in 2009. Listen to the audience reaction as each Robot character appears in the video. It tells which Go Nagai Robots are most popular in Latin America and which are unknown to them, or just not as popular.

The video makes me happy and sad at the same time. From one side, it's nice to see that many people still liking Nagai's work... But their knowledge is limited. They didn't bother to learn more about super robots (or maybe they couldn't, who knows) so they don't know who Govarian is, or Groizer, not even Getter Robo G...

They didn't bother to learn more about super robots (or maybe they couldn't, who knows) so they don't know who Govarian is, or Groizer, not even Getter Robo G... We couldn't learn more about other Go Nagai super robots, at least not yet, because those shows just didn't make it to Latin American countries in the 70s and 80s, and the Internet wasn't around. We simply din't know at the time of our childhood that those other Go Nagai robots existed. On the other hand, Gaiking and Starzinger (both part of Force Five in the US) are very popular and loved in Latin America, but these are not Go Nagai's (Gaiking is, but it was stolen from him). Another super robot popular in Latin America is Gakeen, but not nearly as popular as Mazinger Z, Gaiking, Jeeg and Starzinger. I do realize Starzinger is not a super robot show, but some how it got lumped together with super robot shows in the US and in Latin America. I'm glad though, because I love Starzinger very much. But thanks to the Internet and thanks to RobotJapan and all of you fellow members, I am now learning about all these other Super Robots I missed during my childhood. Oh, and thanks to Pacific Rim too, for awakening our interest in the super robot shows and toys of our childhood.

Groizner-X was broadcasted in Brazil as "O Pirate do Espacio" (The Space Pirate), and it was broadcasted in Venezuela as "El Justiciero" (The Righteous).
As far as I know Govarian and Getter Robo were never broadcasted in Latin America. The toys were available there though.

zero reaction for both Grendizer and Shin Getter 1 why those are bad a$$ robots Shin Getter, I may understand (sigh) after all, it only appeared in: - the mangas - the Armageddon OVAs - the Shin VS Neo Getter OVAs - that clip in the video and maybe somewhere else... but anyway, it's all "recent" stuff. Back then, if you only watched robot shows on TV, you had no idea Shin Getter even existed. But GRENDIZER??? That's unexpected. Mazinger Z was recognized by everyone there. Great Mazinger, heh, some people cheered, but not as many. But nobody, NOBODY recognized Grendizer...

My only memory of Great Mazinger is that he showed up at the end of the very last episode of Mazinger Z. That was the last we saw of both Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger on the TV Screen. Other than that, I remember seeing Great Maziger toys and Grendizer toys, but I had no idea who Grendizer was and least of all that he was part of a Mazinger franchise. I only learned who Grendizer is through RobotJapan. Judging by some of the posts by members here and by the videos I've seen on YouTube about Grendizer, it seems Grendizer is very popular in the Middle East, and Jeeg seems extremely popular in Italy. I think that's cool. Our love for Japanese super robots seems to be one thing we all have in common around the world.

Even if we're going slightly OT, it's an interesting topic: a robot's fame based on its appearence on TV in a certain country. As you said, Grendizer is as popular in the middle east as Voltes V is in the Philippines. It all depends on: if the show aired back in the days on TV, if it aired in the major channels, and it also depends on the quality of the dub (not too much, but it matters). Here in Italy, I've heard countless times names such as Jeeg, Goldrake (renaming of Grendizer), Daitarn and Mazinger. Grendizer was aired before Great Mazinger, which in turn was aired before Mazinger Z (just imagine the confusion that followed), and Grendizer is still remembered today by many grown ups.

I can attest that when I grew up in Venezuela Great Mazinger only appeared on the last episode of Mazinger Z. As kids, we new that there should have been a Great Mazinger series, but it was never broadcasted.
As for Grendizer, the show was aired for the first time back in 1989-1990. But it never gathered the popularity that Mazinger, Gaiking (known as El Gladiador), and Diapolon had.

ANd to the Arab audience it was clearly that Grendizer was superior to Mazinger in every aspect ! but Mazinger was loved aswell and is still recognised.
