I recently bought a Wii. As a Nintendo fan, I may be biased, but I am just more interested in more of the games for it than the PS3 and XBOX 360. Those just don't do much for me.
Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom are a few amazing games I can think of off the top of my head that aren't available for the other systems.

I think the Wii is generally a good choice for kids. The only problem with it is most of the non-Nintendo games kind of suck. There are exceptions (like Tatsunoko V. Capcom, Okami, and Godzilla Unleashed), but I've had trouble finding games worth playing beyond what the big N makes. Still, it is a lot of fun - especially when playing with lots of people.
I guess it partially depends on how old your kid is. Teenagers and older would probably get more out of a PS3, but anyone younger would probably be happier with a Wii. What kind of games does he like?

I have both a wii and a PS3 and you might have more fun together if you have a wii. There is a large enough range of Wii games that you might find stuff for both of you.

If you are the primary user of the machine, I go for the PS3. The Wii is just lacking unless you are a casual gamer that only want to sample games. I personally have all three systems, with the wii currently collecting the most dusk. The games just aren't appealling, and I have over 70+ titles because I softmodded mine and boot games of a external HDD. The PS3 get some action, mostly single player games. I rarely play online on that system because the damn thing always kill my router during every startup. And it connected using LAN line. Now, my 360, I can't live without it because of Modern Warfare 2. I like the game so much that i brought it for the PS3 also. But I still don't like playing in on the PS3. Connection for some reason wasn't as good and the control isn't to my liking.
So if is for a six year old a wii could be a good choice, but knowing nintendo, I could be sure they are releasing something better really soon. Xbox already did with their new slimmer 360. PS3 release the slim version last year. And they are already working on a new DS3D, seems like the DSiXL just came out and they are already releasing a new one.Hardware wise, the wii is still a generation behind. They have the motion technology but it's not even HD compatible. Games can only go as high as 480p.

The Wii will have more games that are catered towards kids and family, particularly party gaming. The Virtual Console also has a lot of older Mario, Sonic etc titles that can be bought and instantly downloaded. With that said, I feel kinda weird that all my Wii games are mature titles (RE:4, No More Heroes, Mad World etc).
Also the Wii can turn out to be a expensive investment. Charging bases, extra controllers + nunchucks, classic controllers, motion plus, Wii Fit etc.
About the controller, I know you can use Gamecube controllers, but I'm not sure if it'll work for all games. You can always buy the classic controllers if you find the Wii controller too cumbersome.

After a year waiting and thinking which console to buy….finally last Saturday I ended up buying the new Xbox 360 slim 4GB, which I got it for a good deal. I got it like $150 after taxes (was like $199 before taxes), I went to Best Buy, Future Shop and Game Stop even at Staples and all of them told me that it was all sold out. Except Staples which told me that they don’t do price match, what a bummer…anyway after driving to and from to other shops (which also cost me some gas on my tank) in finding a good deal I ended up walking my way at Walmart after doin the price match thing. Graphics is extremely good using my HD TV but now im trying to find a good game for my 7 year old kid. Any idea? I was also wondering is it possible to connect to the internet using my xbox without buying the xbox live gold???

What do you mean by connecting to the internet? If you mean playing multiplayer online, then you will have to buy a Gold membership. You can still use all the other feature of XBL with a silver membership except netflix and a few other things I thinki, I haven't had an xbox for a few years. Also, if you want to be really cheap, I believe you get 30 days free of Gold when you create a SBL account. What I did for a few months was just make a new account every month and use the free 30 days on that account. I believe this is limited to 5 accounts per xbox now though.

Problem is, you went the cheaper route and got one without an internal HD. 4gb of space, just doesn't cut it. But you can get a 16gb flash memory jump drive. For kids under ten, there are a lot of games you can download for him to play from xbox live. If he was younger, you could of download a bunch of demos to let him play. But one game a 7 yr old will like is castle crasher.
Silver membership is free and allows for you to get demos. Do always look for deals for the points. 1600 points cost 20$, games like castle crasher will cost that much. Just look at the weekly deals. Games like Megaman 10, I got it for like 400 points because these download only games do go on sale. Last april 1, the deal was 200 points for Xmen arcade game. Also got ninja turtles, turtle in time remix for 200 points. These download games are perfect for kids. Just get more space to store it.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any games I would recommend for a 7-year-old. Kinect games might be a good option, since they don't require a controller, but that requires another $150 and you need a big open space to play it.

thanks for the info guys...
What I ment was is it possible to use my xbox to surf the internet or watch Netflix without buying or paying for an xbox gold membership. I remember my friend told me that he can surf the internet using his PS3 (even my PSP) using only wi-fi. I was wondering since xbox has a built in wi-fi I was expecting it to be similar or not I supposed.
For now Im better off with the 4GB, I rarely play other games except my all time favorite NBA 2k series. I can play that all night long! Lol!
About kids games, my kid loves Crash Bandicoot and Sonic the Hedgehog. Hes crazy playing it over and over in his PSP, I read from somewhere that you can play old x-box (the 1st xbox) game in the new xbox 360 slim, like a backward compatibility kinda thing. Although I did found some used x-box games in Amazon, but it sucks they don’t ship it to Canada. Was also looking to old titles like Lord of the Rings and Spiderman games.
Anyway does an ordinary thumb drive works as a back up storage for the x-box? That’s interesting.
Anyone tried watching AVi on their xbox???
Thanks guys….

Some avi format works. Pending on the resolution type, size. I know that anything that is HD, 1280X1024 wouldn't work, heck 720X400 doesn't work. I don't know if you are allowed to have netflix access on silver membership. Wouldn't hurt to try since you pay for netflix separately and silver membership is free. I don't know if there is a web browser feature, have two 360's and have not use that. Those 16gb USB flash drive works, but not all brands. You can also link your 360 to your computer and access the shared video on your computer.
