I am new to this line of toys, and just found a Y&K GodBot...I think. The problem I am having is if this is a KO that was made in Taiwan why is stamped "Y&K made in Japan"? Or, am I identifying it incorrectly? Your help is much appreciated.

the Godbot is the bottleg version of Godsigma DX. if it says Y&K then it is not the bootleg.

Cholo is right, all your bots have the original Popy Japan markings, so it's a real Godsigma. Tip offs, even without the Popy marks, are the upper thighs/hip on the top black robot, have the black w/ red stripe section (bootleg Godbot is all chrome there) , and the upper shoulders on yours are silver/grey (bootleg is all bright chrome shoulders) See here in the "Gallery" tab off the Main page: www.robot-japan.com/item/godsigma-godaikin.html

Hey mgm, welcome to the site! That's a good start to the hobby. I've got a relatively large collection, and I still don't have this figure complete yet. So already I'm envious of you. Now you need to track down the chest/wing piece. Good luck!

There's quite a few listing of god sigma on ebay these days, mostly godaikins and the occasional poppy version.

mecha-mecha, do you have a straight forward way to ID the "Popy" version vs the Godaikin?
I've heard of slight light blue color variations. -Maybe stampings are different??

what i usually take note of apart from looking out for the usual popy markings on the body is to check the belt clip of the red robot (sky thunder king?). the original one have a yellow (with 2 vertical lines) belt clip whereas the KO one do not. Another dead giveaway is the shine on the chrome, the KO's chrome is usually over the top shiny, looks very unnatural for a vintage toy, i am not ruleing out the existence of super mint vintage speciments out there, but what are the odds? ;D
another thing worth checking is the paintwork, the KO ones that i have came across usually have smudges on the body, and the colour appears "off", shows signs of sloppishness. the vintage one on the other hand are usually immaculately painted. but its pretty hard to scrutinize paintwork over the Net, especially when sellers provide low res pics.

popy vs godaikin comparisons are extremely tricky.. i have both Popy and Godaikin versions back home and to be honest, i cant really tell them apart, the same applies to my godmarz ;D stamping are exactly the same, but yes, i do notice that there's a slight variation of the tone on the blue robot (sea king?), One of my popy version have a slightly lighter bluish-green tone, whereas its darker on the other popy set. so i am pretty sure the subtle differences of the colouring on the body is not confined to popy or godaikin version. my theory is that all comes out from the same manufacturing plant and are distributed across Japan and the USA, using only the packaging to differentiate the target markets. however, due to the demand and value of such toys, it has driven both sellers and collectors to often mix and match parts (unfortunately from both godaikin and popy versions) to pass off as complete sets, hence even if there are distintive difference between both versions, i am afraid we will not be able to tell. (and i am very sure this problem is also proliferating across other vintage toys). Unless someone have purchased a set of each when they were first launched, left it the way it was and kept them in relative good condition, it would be pretty impossible to work out which is which.

Interesting. I'm in the same boat with my observations.
In the same vein, I'm pretty sure stampings ARE different on Gardians. I think there was an english/Europe stamping added to the back of the main robot. One of these days I'll check :/ .

I'm interested in a head for the main guy with all the horns intact if anyone has one. Also fists for the blue and yellow guys...

What about custom repaint project on an item this rough, or obviously parts perhaps? Has anyone here at RJ ever attempted such an endeavor, and if so I would like to see some before and after pictures? I am going to start a thread about a Bio-man I just received from Australia an Bio Dragon, do a video here soon, showing some nice repair work I did to that horn, as well as chrome repaint of sword and shield which were way rough....

Mine has the small and big fists for the main guy, and only one first for the two ancillary guys. My yellow guy is a little busted up so I bought another. I'm in danger of having too much money into a loose and loved 'bot but he does complement my childhood Godsigma ST rather nicely. I'll take a pic when the other yellow guy comes in.
EDIT. I double checked and I have GB 18,19, & 20.
