Star Blazers / Space Battleship Yamato creator, Yoshinobu Nishizaki passed away yesterday in a boating accident. Very tragic considering 2010 had been a big year for the revival of the franchise with the new animated film, and the live-action movie opening Dec. 1. While many consider Leiji Matsumoto (myself included,) as the driving force behind Yamato, the series was definitely the brainchild of Mr. Nishizaki and he had as much to do with the success of the series as Mr. Matsumoto. He has left quite a legacy, and I was glad to read that he indeed saw the live-action film before the accident. RIP Mr. Nishizaki.
