Hmm... Just dusting around the living room today and I was disppointed to find that my RiD Optimus and Ultra Magnus both had cracks in several of their tires. It's a shame because I scoured my local ToysRUs when they came out and checked them through their window boxes to make sure the rubber tires were in good shape before I bought them. But well, I guess all things in time must go.
But for my future reference... does anybody have tips on taking care of those little tires to prevent cracking? I mean, I don't think it's anything to do with how I've been treating them... I've got original G1 Autobots whose tires are fine. But I'm now worried because, well, all the BT cars have rubber on them too in the very same appartment. Were the tires on the RiD series toys harder and more sensitive to humidity factors? Etc?

I think it was because it was a harder type of rubber, I don't think the BT's rubber will go out that easily.

I've heard of this happening to the RID Prime and Magnus tires before, so I really think it's probably isolated to them for some reason. Like Otaru said, I doubt the BTs, or many others, will have the same problem, at least so soon.
Thankfully my RID Prime and Magnus' tires are still fine, but it would be good to know if there is a way to prevent the cracking before it happens.

Thanks for the reassurance, folks. I agree - the BT tires appear to be softer and probably less prone to cracking. I'm just a little miffed at this turn of events because I thought I took pretty good care of my toys short of sealing them in air-tight containers. Granted it does get dry and cold in my appartment during the winter, but still... this is ridiculous.

They had some major issues with tires for RID, especially in Prime/Magnus. Just like they had earlier problems with the chroming on Transmetals/Beast Machines (My 1st Jetstorm had major flaking despite never being handled!) The story from Hasbro is that they got a bad rubber batch. I know my TF2000 Prime didn't have the problem though my RID one did.

Same with me too. RID Prime got cracked wheels.

This also leads one to wonder: can this be repaired? Like with a rubber cement compound or something? I'm not holding my breath for a reply to this one though.

Man... I should go now to check my RID Prime and Ultra Magnus' tires. I've never noticed any cracks, but they've been in the same pose for months now.

I know some rubber actually dry rots.
If you know you have troubles, maybe you can experiment with ArmorAll. I know it changes the actual polymer structer of the "rubber" and may help fix your problems.
