I'll have to check this out. I played the card game heavily for years before the group I played with split after high school, but only marginally followed the game since.

It's a dumbed-down but very pretty-to-look-at version of Magic Online. And it's great that it's self-contained - except if you want to buy additional decks. But the built-in decks are balanced okay so it's fun for a casual game with yourself. However, the puzzle mode is cool and I wish there were more puzzles.
I wish it had come out a little sooner since I felt like I waited forever for the PS3 port but then this past summer it came out on Steam and I got it there so... too bad I won't be playing with you guys on PSN. Oh well.

I've read that you can't make your own decks with this That was always one of my favorite parts.

Yeah that's true, cyrano. As I understand it you cannot customize your deck, but you can edit your deck in the deck manager option. Basically just means you can move cards around when you unlock add'l cards.
I think for sure seasoned players of Magic might find the game a bit dumbed-down like you said, Ben. However, for folks like me who just want a casual experience or to learn the basics of the game (again) it's a pretty good entry level system. It does a fair amount of hand holding which is good, since I haven't played in years. You can also turn off the hints once you figure out your way through the matches.
I was happy when I finally beat Chandra. Basically did it with an all green deck. Although, you can switch up to a red deck should you desire.
