I have been wondering about the Convoy name they have been using for these figures. I know that Convoy is the Japanese name for Optimus or Commander and Galaxy Convoy is a new version of him. But are figures like Nitro Convoy and Life Convoy suppose to be leaders like Galaxy, maybe a new version of Rodimus or Ultra.

I recall one of Dreamwaves coolest posters I ever saw was a large mural of all the characters who were ever called "Convoy" (or Optimus Prime)... it even included a little known monkey-bot from the Beast Wars toy-line named Optimus Minor! If there was anything they all had in common was that their faces shared a similar "look" - kind of a helm with an inversed diamond shape grill at the forehead... and this Nitro Convoy barely has that! Remy's pics are top-notch as usual. But nothing about this design is particularly striking to me - and hardly makes me think it should be a "Convoy." I mean, I've hated every design since Armada started - but even I have to admit that Galaxy Convoy is fairly impressive... this guy doesn't cut it.

I haven't seen any episodes of Galaxy Force, but from what I've read about it, the story is supposed to take place on various different planets and each of those planets have been assigned a "Convoy" to assume leadership, or responsibility to govern. Hence, multiple Convoys. It seems like a pretty cool (or at least fresh) idea. However I've always understood that the designation "Convoy" was given to the leader of all Cybertrons (Autobots).
I like this design, especially the head sculpt. It doesn't scream Convoy to me either, but I like it. My biggest gripe of the figure, however, would probably be his hip joints. They just look a tad scrawny, making the figure less majestic looking. Otherwise, I can't wait for this to hit American shores.

Wasn't Rodimus Prime names Rodimus Convoy in Japanese?

Yes he was. And at the time he was still the exclusive Convoy to the Cybertrons, after Prime's death, of course.

Convoy is like the Transformers version of Ultraman or Green Lantern...the assigned protector for a particular planet/region

In a similar vein, the official transformers book I've been browsing talks about the name "Prime" as being the supreme leader at the time (for U.S. and U.K. comics).
