Great review. I had heard the plastic on this one was below par before from others too. However, like you said, the overall design deserves better quality manufacturing. If you like the design of it, a nice alternative to this one is the Target exclusive RID Dreadwind with Smokejumper set from a few years ago. The subdued dark green miliary colors really make it less "kiddie-fied", and the quality of the plastic is also better than the original. As another advantage, details like the Decepticon insignias are printed/painted on, so there are no stickers to peel off over time. Dreadwind and Smokejumper

Great review Ed! The Dreadwing mold has great play value. I only have the BW2 version (BB and Starscream)...but its the same mold...with stealth colors...

Nice review. I always liked Smokescreen far more than I did Dreadwing. He's awkward, top-heavy, and his transformation is so clumsy. Every single time you transform him from jet to robot, you run the risk of snapping his legs. In addition, no matter how careful you are, his missiles WILL fall out of their chambers when you transfom him...all six of them...all over the place.
Smokescreen, on the other hand, is very well done. My only regrets are that his legs don't always stay in place in jet mode and that his missiles have a tendency to spontaneously launch on their own.
The BWII colors are far superior for this combo, though the Korean version seems to be of a lower quality. The BWII equivalent of Smokescreen isn't nearly as tight, joint-wise.
I've always wished they'd repaint this pair as a sub-set for a new series. Sell the combo of Dreadwing and Smokescreen, but also offer three or four additional Smokescreens in other colors. That way, you can have an army of awesome transforming stealth jets, along with one stealth carrier for them.

This pair has been re-issued again as Gigant Bomb and Smokesniper as part of the RobotMasters line-up.

This pair has been re-issued again as Gigant Bomb and Smokesniper as part of the RobotMasters line-up. Yes, there are a total of four different releases of this combo now, though I'd like to see one series release multiple variants, and have it so that you can buy many stealth jets without having to pay for many stealth carriers. Incidentally, is the Robot Masters version on the same size scale, or is it smaller?

I'm 99% sure the R. M toy is the same size. . The toy is just wedged into a tighter pack. Then the RM package is about 3 times larger than the rest.
