So I'm new to the game here and found myself a great admirer of the quality of two Clover toys I recently came across. They're great (Gundam Super Combination and Tryder G7), but I want something bigger to put on display. It's gotta be die-cast and has to transform into at least a few things. Vintage would be best as I'm a sucker for vintage stuff and believe the quality has changed too much in the recent past to consider buying much of anything new. I'm really wide open to suggestions, but if it's thousands of dollars it won't help me too much.
Thanks everyone!

Look through the gallery and see what strikes your fancy. Voltes V is always one of the more popular selections and a nice size. A boxed one will cost you well over $500 though. Daltanias is also popular. Research Godaikin robots for many more popular ones. Of course, there are plenty of other manufacturers of large and amazing robot toys. It all depends on what you like in a toy and what you really want to spend. That's why its always best to skim around and when you see something that strikes your fancy, go for it.

Hey I've been a bit absent these few days, but welcome to R-J illtrick!
My thought was to go along with Kingboy's suggestion to check out the Godaikin line, but look at the ones that have accessory BIG SCALE carrier ships, or bases, than can be bought seperately. The big DX robots separate, transform, and fit into the big carrier vehicle, which itself is colorful, and has gimmicks, shooty stuff, and transforming parts. I say this as you are looking for something BIG and colorful to display. Sometimes the combo of robot and base, makes the whole shelf go BAM , adds a new play dimension to just the robot.
Some names to search for this would be DYNAMAN w/DYJUPITER (carrier) GoggleV, w/ Goggle Ceasar , BIOMAN w/ Bio Dragon, VOLTES V w/ BigFalcon Base (pricey!)

There is a nice Daltanius which has been sitting on ebay at 500 forever now, and all I can see it could use, is the smaller robot's weapon has the red under paint showing, so perhaps a quick dip in some chrome paint, and you have one nice sought after big guy for 520 total complete, seems like a good place to start....
If you or someone else does not grab soon, I think I will....
Welcome to the board, and happy collecting....

There are 3-4 Daltanious' on eBay right now, they all pop up if you search. I have one from my childhood, I should put him together.

It seems like there's a ton of different versions out there of Daltanious. Which one is the best? Also looks like theres a SOC version comming out?
Right now I'm looking heavily at a few Soul of Chogokin's. I'd love to hear if anyone has any of these: GX-38 Irongear GX-40 GodMars GX-46 Dygenguar & Aubenseiter
I'd probably rank them in that order too. I'd love to hear about them if anyone has one!

Oh and also the 1/3000 SDF-1 Macross, I realize it's accurate to the movie but I like robots with hands and more realistic faces.

I see it didn't take you long to swing in favor of the SOC line, lol. I was the same way as I am new to hobby as well, but I think you will find the old and new have there place, depending on the countless diff brands, robots, models etc.... For my next SOC I had thought of the Macross 1/3000 SDF and the GX-38 Irongear as well.... I have added a couple already from the modern day, the Tet 28 gx-44 from Bandai SOC and the Danguard Ace from Yamato plated version, both look great IMO, and I have no complaints about either.... I think you will also find, you get a more simplistic transformation generally with the old, and the newer SOC robtos have more "bells and whistles" as one member put it then the old, but they are usually more of a pain, due to removable parts, which often don't lock tight enough to the robot and fall off, like the tank tread on the SOC Combattler.... Plus the old usually has color pattersn more vibrant to my liking, and the SOC often is designed to capture the anime look.... Speaking of Combattler (he is like Voltes V brother, lol), I think he is one of my top five favs easy, and a perfect center piece starter. I know one or two unlisted you could get if interested, and I still haven't gotten a good vintage one for self yet.... This Gb-55 Popy ultra rare Combattler below is real nice I think, but disappointing to some when they get cause it is only like six inches tall perhaps, much smaller than Popy and Godaikin version. But man this one is a gem, a truly rare great item, and if I had a spare 800 right now, I would offer it to this guy, and I bet he would accept. Good luck and take care.... cgi.ebay.com/RARE-NEW-GB-55-DX-Combattler-V-POPY-CHOGOKIN-Voltes-V-/140502212807?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b695a0c7

I haven't touched any of the SOC's so it's hard to really know, it's just cool watching videos of nerds like us transform them on youtube! I like Irongear and Godmarz especially because of their color scheme. I admit I love me some anime and think the cartoons that were made almost entirely for the toys generally suck but that's why we have awesome cartoon robot toys and suckey anime robot toys. Look at me! I'm a r0b0 n00b and I'm already getting all angry!
I like the older one's alot too but I don't have the budget for it so new robot prices are catching my attention. Is there any source to price these things though? I feel like all I got is ebay and that's unreliable at best. I want to be able to learn what's a deal and what isn't.

Learning prices will take time, and the Ebay market is great read, as any Godaikin placed on auction at 1 dollar starting bid with no reserve, will bring what is worth most cases, for the market at the current time. Every once in a while a great deal slips through the cracks, being these Ebay king fishers don't miss much....
Like that gb-55, I have only seen one other so far in my time collecting, and it was out of Japan and it brought nearlly 800 seems like, with shipping charge....
Just keep in mind, the soc line is not vintage, and the oldest you will find I think dates back to 1992. They are not as hard to find in most cases, many out there and not much of a future re-sale market, minus keeping one mint condition on display only for 25 years, lol again, IMO....
I don't want to sell any of my vintage complete Godaikins, but if I hit real hard times, I know I could turn them back into currency real fast, and that just may not be the case with the SOC line. So look at it as in investment, that will only increase in value in time, like precious medals, a no brainer right now, something esle I stock pile besides robots, silver and gold, lol....

I just wanna chime in regarding the SOC Iron Gear and Godmars. I have both and I absolutely LOVE my Iron Gear, well Ive always loved Iron Gear and when I got the SOC I was not dissapointed. Its heavy and has great shelf presence. Its not the most colorful out there but its really cool and gets mistaken for the vintage when I show people.
As for the God Mars, I dont mess with it much, but its also a really really cool figure. Its colorful and has a nice weight to it too...
Damn it..its like midnight and I have the urge to reach into my display case for one..or both

wow, that's really good feedback! There's something to the SOC line that's cool, but I think you're right. They're not the "investment" these older ones are. However! I'm looking for a robot to play with so I can keep these nice, and a SOC is a mighty good candidate. lol

There's totally something more drawing about Irongear to me. GodMarz wins most of the points in the huge and whole 5 robots thing. I also thought about that wierd horse and rider combo (Dygenguar & Aussenseiter), but the colors are wrong and that vintage feel is awesome. Plus maybe I could try and keep collecting clover and angle for a Clover Irongear.

Yeah, in my opinion, the SOC Irongear looks pretty similar to the Clover one.

I plan to get that Iron gear next, as Ricky2002 out of Hong Kong has it for a good deal last I saw, 145, and with 50 shipping it is still under the 200 dollar mendoza custom line, and many of these Asian dealers real cool about marking an item as a gift or 199 total for item and charge 265 for shipping for example on higher priced bots, to save you on custom fees. May not be smartest move as we are talking federal customs here, but in this day and age with terroist bomb scares etc., they are much more concerned I bet with items coming through that are not listed as vitnage toys lol, and our Gov is not going to stand in the way economy stimulation right now, esp when we are bringing valuable goods from China anad Japan into our market. I bet if the whole world was smart enough to buy and sell as we collectors do on ebay (stimulating the economy), we would not be in the shape our econ is in right now, near disaster....
Definitley not the subject for this board, but you really have to go to Asia sometimes to get the SOC's, as I couldn't even find the Yamato Danguard Ace in USA, and it is one bad ass new robot which looks amazing in both modes by the way, and could only find it in three places in Asia....
