Its been quiet lately, so I'll throw out a silly question, but it might still be fun. Which of the vintage toy manufacturers is your favorite?
We have Popy (Voltes V, Daimos, Dangard Ace) with so many toys, and the epitomy of Japanese chogokin toys. Clover (Gundam, Zambot, Daitarn) Takatoku (Big Dai X, Goshogun, Daikengo) Bullmark (Diapolon, Machine Blaster, Daibaron) Ark (Mech-Gorilla, Baltan, Red King) Maybe even Eida Grip (chogoman's favorite? nah - gotta be Bullmark for him)
There's a lot to choose from, and a lot of different styles. For me, I think I've always been most partial to Takatoku (Gokaiser and Big Dai X), though Clover (Zambot and Daitarn) is up there. And of course, Popy has so many classics. So tough.

That was unexpected! lol
So what specifically do you like so much about these specific toys? The blockiness of the toys? The weight? The characters?

Very unexpected I think it is a combination of a few factors. The characters, the design of the toys, the gimmicks and whats very important for me...the design and artwork of the boxes. Bullmark made so many great toys, but at the end, the company didn't make it and gone bankrupt. The golden age of japanese toys ended. A toy legend. I also like Takemi, Popy, Takatoku, Grip, Nakajima, Ark, Clover,... All these companies made great toys too and I have lots of them in my collection, but Bullmark plays a very important role in my collection.

Banprestoooooooooo!!! Especially the Banpresto Mazinger toys from the 1990s through 2001 period... I also like all the other Banpresto super-robot toys. There's just something distinctive about Banpresto toy box art, like that Voltes V miniature Voltes toy I reviewed last summer (the one that converts into a jet vehicle)... yeah, the box art... no fancy gradient colors bleeding into others, just str8 up Bold Vivid Bright colors and a see-through window to see the toy inside. Some of their boxes had those windows while others were just box art all around. Banpresto is my favorite vintage so far, Hands Down! zozo-Magengar

Popy for me, with Clover and Takatoku a close second.
I also love Takara. The 1/48 Dougram is a fantastic toy. I also have all of the 1/60 Votoms toys and of course we can't forget the Transformers and their Diaclone and Microman ancestors.

suckerpunch, hahahahaaaaaa! ;D Yeah, man, I giggle for them Banpresto toys. Movin on... I remember seeing the little Shogun Warrior chogokin figures on display at an old hobby store in the Bronx (circa late '70s through early '80s) the store was known as Hobby Tree... ...every day on my walk home from school I'd stop in and gaze at the chogokins on the shelf... every one of them (Mazinga, Raideen, Getter Poseidon were among the few... and some Gaiking vehicles too). Next to them were the Goranger Varijet and the Machine Hayabusa race-car. Them toys and their box arts had me standin there mesmorized for long minutes until the clerks would ask me to leave. I thought I'd never see them toys again... until Now at RJ, and owning a couple of them as well. I'd like to collect more, at least for displaying them with their colorful tiny boxes. Thanks to y'all for havin these cool retro relics of the day. zzo-magengar Tony, that's not one I expected to come up. Interesting...

Hmmm, pretty tough to answer for me. Like asking which of your children is your favorite - they each have good points about them. Coming at it from mostly a vehicle perspective: Popy - They have the volume down, but for me they stand out for being the gold standard in shooting gimmiks that work when and how they should. Bullmark - They have the heft and shelf presence. Cooler gimmiks than popy, but more often than not, struggle to work on command. Ark - Chunks of metal characters that can interchange parts with each other - very cool! Eidai & Takatoku - Being a fan of Tatsunoko vehicles, these two hold a special place in my heart also. From the original Gatchaman vehicles, to Speed Racer, Casshan and Hurricane Polimer, I just love the designs. Of course the box art on the Grips is a big plus also. Takara - Magnemo - 'nuff said. I suppose it depends on what kind of mood I'm in that day/week/month. I'm currently in a Bullmark mood

It's tough to call one but as for being part of my childhood it would have to be Popy and Clover who produced my favorites. Popy did Golion which is my ultimate favorite and Clover who did Daitarn... I gotta add something to Clover. The Xabungle releases...that Iron Gear is sweet even though its not bog on diecast. I love it. I will never know what its like to own a Zambot 3 of theirs so I will not even bother to mention how cool those are you know, come to think of it, I also like Takatoku and Takara...what a hard question!

I tend to not chime in on questions like this because I have the same issue as Bill on this one. I can't decide, but I do have moods that I get into. This is the same for music, actors, cars etc. My tastes are too varied and all over the place to decide on just one or two, so I have current fixations that steer my buying habits in this hobby. Right now I'm kinda focused back on the vinyl side which puts me clearly in the Bullmark zone for the moment. I'll get a wild hair at some point soon and go off on another buying tangent. I don't own any of the Clover stuff, but have always drooled over the great box art, and the toys are spectacular. I just might be headed into the zone of no return.

Well, I'm glad people have such varied tastes, and more seem to focus on Bullmarks. More of the other manufacturer's toys for me! I'm not such a big Bullmark fan. Aside from the Bullpets (which I absolutely love) and Daibarons, I'm not too fond of the other stuff. Rockbat, Diapolon, Machine Blaster, Mekanda - I just don't really like the designs that much. Heck, even with the Ultraman Leo, I prefer the Grip version. Different strokes for different folks.

My favorite has always been Banpresto, now that I realize all the cool super robot toys of the 1990s through 2001 I've missed.
