A deadstock Popy Daimos DX ends at 185,000 yen on YJ. Auction # h150725950. Ed always says the high end stuff keeps rising. So it appears. This is just crazy, IMO.

Yeah, saw that one. Unopened deadstock will do that to a price.

Just like those recent batches of MIB Godaikins on ebay. Top prices, but worth for the perfect stuff. I think each Daimos has gone for $650 to $900 or so. The YJ Daimos seems way out! Must have been the "two knuckleheads" scenario.

Deadstock scenario.....
I believe it. Haven't seen that in a Daimos Popy for ages....

But still, two grand for a Daimos? Come on! Do not underestimate the power of deadstock and a nice box. Collectors will pay through the nose for the rare and highly desireable in such condition. And all you need is two heavy wallets going for it for it to get up there in price. Yeah, it's a crazy price - but not so surprising. Hell, it's not even my area, and I thought about throwing some decent coin at it in the early stages...

Reference 1 carat diamond prices. How much is the top 2% vs the average stone? Don't get me wrong in that these AREN'T diamonds. They are toys. But, this illustrates how collectors esteem near-perfection. That and a wealthy person looks at these differing prices as a drop in the bucket. www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?track=bbt#gridI see $30,000 1 carat diamonds all the way down to $1k or so. -A 3000% variation. We are talking a 300% variation.

Prices have been rising generally across the board, although obviously at varying levels, since 2008 from what I've seen. I'm sure much of this is due to the economy for the newer items.

Must have been the "two knuckleheads" scenario. Yes, I have seen that too Mr. RepairTechJon. At times I watch some of the Chogokin, Popy, and vintage Japan toys (usually the ones I only like ;D) on EBay just to see what they are worth and what they sell for. I Watched the same seller make some good money or other sellers that are auctioning items form an estate collection selling MintInBox Godaikin Voltes V, Daimos and Sun Vulcan and some other ST's. I believe some of the MIB Voltes' ended between $1k to almost $1700. I saw the Daimos' too at around the price range you described. The Sun Vulcans were also MIB and went for around $400. There is a Goggle V Godaikin on there going for $500 right now - YES REALLY!?! I have a Mint In Box (almost brand new) Original Japan white box Goggle V and I didn't think the Godaikin one was valued at around that. But still that much for a Popy Daimos DX? That's Murder.... Btw, hate to sound like a Rook but deadstock is the same meaning as Gem Mint - basically little to no wear and tear/brand new condition, right? Trying to keep up with my JP Toy Vocab...

There had better be some Diamonds on that Daimos DX, maybe diamonds hiding in the cab when it transforms, platinum or white gold sword attachments, hell Diamonds in the box to go with it!!! Maybe if it morphed into Diamond Skin like White Queen Emma Frost from the X-Men then I would pay that price!!! Well, Maybe........ MUUUAAAAHAHAHAAA! LOL's.............

I haven't looked at the prices for these for a while, but I must say things do seem to have changed. They aren't out of reach (yet), but have gotten to a stage were what we used to call "sticker shock" in the car trade comes into play .... we would have people who hadn't purchased a new car for years, or even checked the prices, and when looking for an updated model would almost run from the showroom when they were told the price of the new model car they were after. I'm sure there are still good items to buy at reasonable prices ... well, I hope there are.

SOOooo, does "DEADSTOCK" mean the same thing as Gem Mint or Mint In Box, or is it something else entirely like has not been opened since factory released it? Anyone, Anyone?.... Bueller, Bueller? Well, I think that Mint In Box (MIB) just mean the contents are mint, but the box won't necessarily be. Mint In Sealed Box (MISB) means just that, that the box has never even been opened, but again, the box might be damaged. Mint In Mint Sealed Box (MIMSB) is obvious. Deadstock I suspect just means that it has been sitting on a shelf in a warehouse for years. I don't think that this automatically denotes a mint box, but it often implies it since it has not been handled much. I guess we just need to see pictures in all cases to ensure we know what we are buying.

KingboyD has it right for my terms. Deadstock. Means, to me, about the same as new old stock or brand new, stored away in a warehouse. Often, to me, it comes with a great condition box (not necessarily gem mint) but with a perfect toy, unused stickers, bright chrome, etc.
@ Berserker, I bring up diamonds for illustration. Yes, I have to laugh about it all too to some degree. Are they really worth $30,000 for one carat? Really?? Why? Couldn't one argue that they are priced high because they are sought after; and esteemed to be worth that high cost. But how rare are they really;hasn't nature been producing diamonds by the tonnage for millineaum?
How about artwork? Why can vintage posters get up to $10,000?
So I would argue that our toys are truly rare (in some cases). Then I'd argue that cars, posters, sculpture, robots, etc can all go up in value due to their semi-art value. What is a fair percentage of price increase?
Is it fair for a Chrysler muscle car to go from 5K to 150K? That mass produced item has gone up 3000% That would be similar to a Voltes V going from $100 retail to a current $3000 Collectible value (perfect).

I am glad a got a real nice complete near mint Daimos, with only a slightly faded box and small rip, in front of box for 300 bucks. Seems like a steal now....

Like Ed said, these robots if close to perfect and nice an complete rise in value big time. I would say comparable to precious medals....
My thoughts and prayers go out to Japan, but one can't but wonder when they recover how this will effect their market for these guys, many could have been lost in disaster. Obviously much more important things to worry about then robots for them, but one must wonder how this will effect buying/selling Godaikin's an Popy or any robot or merchandise via Japan in the long run, and the effect on their overall value....
Just in the little time I have been collecting I have seen prices go from crazy to rediculous. Another good example, Danguard A Yamato has doubled in price since I got mine, and it seems to be getting scarce. I bet I could turn mine loose on ebay for a dollar an free shipping in USA and it would bring 400 perhaps, but I am not selling him unless the #$%& hits the fan, roflmao....
I have seen some Sun Vulcans an Google V's bring some rediculous money, I got my Goggle V for 250, and my Sun Vulcan for 200, but have sen others go for double that or more....

Hey godaikincolector74, thats a decent price for a Daimos. I think I have a Godaikin Daimos also that is almost MintInBox. He *Might* be in my auctions here on RobotJapan coming soon, but I am still thinking about it. Like Ed said, these robots if close to perfect and nice an complete rise in value big time. Yes, I have been watching Sun Vulcans and Goggle V's lately. Those Sun Vulcans have been selling for about $300 and up since the year started and the Goggle V's have been selling between $300 to $500. I am so glad I have my Cross in Box (JP version of GoggleV) and my Godaikin Sun Vulcan. Their both in Pristine condition! Sun Vulcan *Might* be on auction as well, contemplating on him also.... ;D -B
