Man oh man, Takara is on a roll these days! According to BBTS, it was announced just hours ago that Takara will be reissuing STAR CONVOY!!! Even better, they're reissuing him in the classic package style, like they did with Predaking, as opposed to the Dreamwave book-style TF Collection reissues. For fans and collectors unable to come up with $400+ for an original, this is monumental news! Check out the preorder here: www.bigbadtoystore.com/toystan.asp?Queryid=pr622

It was a Japanese only series called Battle Stars. It was a while after G1 ended in the US, but continued in Japan.

Nice!! I might have to pick this up since I haven't really bought any new Transformers since MP-02. This was from a Manga series right? Wasn't there also a "Super Megatron" or something in the series, unfortunately I know they didn't make a toy out it. Anyway at least this is the original Prime in a new body instead of somebody else with his name.

I'm not sure if it was a manga only, or if there was a cartoon for it, but yeah, there was a pretty slick looking Megatron too.
I'm glad he's back to Convoy too, as opposed to being Ginrai. That idea never appealed to me.

This is great news for G1 collectors. Ebay is already flooded with the original StarConvoy. Any chance they will reissue Grandus and Skygarry? ;D

I think this is Takara's last hurrah since nobody knows what will happen after the Tomy-Takara merger....
... really want a Grandus and Skygarry... hopefully Tomy-Takara (or whatever name they'll use) come up with these 2...
... but until they make an announcement, expect prices of these two to skyrocket at ebay...

I don't know, there is still a lot of classics that TF fans are begging Takara to reissue. Like the Dinobots, and many more movie and post-movie TFs. Not to mention easy reissues like Devastator, Trypticon, or Fort Max, considering all those have been re-done several times since G1, but not again in G1 colors as an "official" reissue.
Even after the merger, I think Takara has a lot of life left in them to continue doing TF reissues.

does this toy have any diecast at all? I doubt it, Star Convoy came out well after Takara/Hasbro switched to all plastic Transformers. But at least you get a mini Hot Rod ;D.

There was no diecast in the original, so it's almost certain the reissue won't have any either.
That is a COOL little Hot Rod. ;D It's also a neat way to show the scale of what Star Convoy is supposed to be at.

I don't think could be real the fact that if you wants Star Convoy you MUST buy it by a pre-order... Why Takara would sell a so low number of item?

WOW! That's a VERY interesting package design! It's more like the original Convoy's box than anything else. I guess this will still keep the original Star Convoy highly desireable (or even moreso), since it used to be packaged in robot mode. This is really cool too though.
