Its been quiet in these parts lately, so here's a new question to mull over for fun. If you HAD to trade one of your vintage toys in for a modern release of the same character, which would it be? Would the choice be based on the fact that the vintage one sucked or was made poorly, or on the fact that the new one is just so awesome? For me, I think a clear choice winner (or at least until I see some other people's suggestions of toys that didn't come to mind ) would be Getter Poseidon. I hated the newer Shogun Warriors release (the one that does not have the fold down tracks and other features) when I first started collecting. The original version is a marked improvement. But still, the SOC Poseidon is a true marvel, and it brings a scrawny toy concept into a thick, imposing figure. This is the way Poseidon is supposed to be! A formidable robot, not a silly mechanical design.

Hmmm... That's a Great question. Its kinda a toss up for me, I would say SOC Dancouga vs. the Popy/Godaikin version even though I own both. The other I am contemplating on (even though I don't own the SOC versions yet, but looking forward to getting them soon) is the Tobikage line. I have read a decent number of reviews and have found the SOC versions have made some good improvements. Overall Dancouga, the SOC articulation, slimline re-design, and all the weapon accessories make it that much better.

Well.......... I dunno if I could do such a thing.
I once had two Yujin Mazinkaisers (Perfect Versions) and I traded one for an SOC GX-01R (turned out to be a damn good deal).
Now if I were to trade a vinny for a moddy..... probably my little chogokin Mazinga for an SRC Mazinger just by himself, I'll buy his Weapons pack later...
But, my little chogokin Mazinga has such sentimental value to me even though I paid for it... I bought it from our dear friend who started this web-group, so the little Mazinga is like his autograph for me. I'd rather repro a resin copy of it instead.
Also, I'm working on refurbishing a chogokin Shogun Warrior Great Mazinga to go with lil Mazinga; all I need are Great Mazinga's fists. Lil Mazinga STAYS with Me, Hands Down.
My alternate choice to trade in would be my Yamato Hero Collection Getter1. But this specimen is Nothing compared to what I'd want for it unless I add cash into the mix.
I feel weird about it when it comes to trade-ins... I don't wanna jinx the other person with by trading him something of lesser value. If it were something the other person exactly wanted, then that's ok.

I don't have a clue. I'm not in modern stuff at all. I would trade my vintage stuff for a 65' Ford Mustang Fastback

SOC's look great, but I would not shift from vintage.
I think Big O looks cool.

Damn, you guys are killing me!
Brien, I really like Dancougar's vintage blocky design. I know this is not very appreciated in vintage circles (especially among Godaikin-specific collectors), but I always totally dug this toy, especially the Big Moth (is that right? - the central elephant part). How many toys have THREE modes?!?! For separate parts, no less. Granted, the SOC is a nice upgrade, but I don't hate on the vintage one.

There is just something about the Vintage toys, I like toys in a bit of played with condition. There is just something different about a toy that is 30+ years old. I have yet to own a SOC and for good reason, I know that it will open up a can of worms I cant afford, to me its also the hunt, I can find vintage toys at thrift stores, yard sales and flea markets. I know I'm going off subject and to answer your question "NO" I would not replace the Vintage Toy.

I'll say that the Fewture Getter Robo series is amazing...... that may be a trade.

I was thinking the same thing Ed, but was "iffy" because Fewture Gokins are such drastic (but yet beautiful) redesigns.
OK Myles how about the vintage Gowapper Godamu vs. the Fewture ES (SD) Gowapper Godam. Even though I don't own the Fewture version yet, for some reason to me it looks better in a Super Deformed Format.
Another Vintage vs. Neo to me would be any Vintage Getter Robo vs. the S.H.E. Perfect Change Getter Robo, I would definitely trade for that since that is the only Getter Robo I can think of that actually makes the transformation and in all 3 Getter Formats.

Hrrmmm. This doesn't exist yet, but I might trade one of the common vintage 1/72, or even a 1/48 Dougram Dual Model, if the DMZ size Dougram, Soltic, or Blockhead ever got made by Takara.

Thats a tough but great question I think most vintage diecast toys are great, they just dony make them like they use to now and i would never trade any of them for modern variants, the nostalgia is just too strong, but i tend to agree with berserker on dancougar, the soc one is such a beautiful and well made piece that i would consider swapping with my vintage one, but only if i get the gx-13r in exchange ;D
