um, that is the REAL deal, that JETFIRE is a clone of. it is the Robotech(USA name) Valkyrie, or Macross fighter. Jetfire is a copy of THIS toy, not the other way around.

Good to know, thanks. And at first I thought it was some cheap knock-off. I should have known better as it did come from Japan during the 80s. Anyone have an idea of what it is worth?

Hasbro was licensed this mold to make Jetfire. Other Transformers have a similar history- Roadbuster and Whirl come to mind. Some early Jetfires even came with the Macross emblem still on the wing. These are also the most valuable of the classic Jetfires today. I have seen MISB Jefires/Macross go for $1,000.
Hasbro had some licensing issues when it came to the animated show (and comic), and thats how Skyfire was born. They made Skyfire just different enough to avoid litigation.
Jetfire is still my favorite G1 toy...yet it is a somewhat half-assed Transformers at the same time because of the history. Of course, now I own 2 Jetfires, 10 Bandai Valkyries, The full set of Perfect Valks, and 10 1/48 Scale Yamato Valkyries. So, you could say I am a fan of the design.

If you have one of these, it's unfortunately not commanding the $400+ range anymore. Demand dropped in the last few years because Bandai started reissuing them a few years ago (the only difference was the packaging and some of the stickers were replaced by nicer tampo-printed details). However, strict elitist collectors will still go for these and may pay top dollar (a few hundred bucks for mint condition, I'm guessing) but remember - they're no longer competing with more conservative collectors who are driving up auction prices. There's just no competition in the auctions for these.

All I need to reattach the back wing is the steel pin (it is missing). Just wondering if anyone has a junker Jetfire and could help me out (assuming it is the same size).
