I may Just be paranoid, but my gut tells me there are very good bootleg vintage dx's beginning to surface. I came from a recent toy convention in Asia, and came across a seller who had a vintage biodragon and dx vavilos for sale for the equivalent of around $200 each. I would've jumped on the vavilos, but upon closer inspection, it looked as pristine as any chogokin would after it rolled of the line. No yellowing, no oxidation, no scratches. The seller said it was never transformed. It had the styrofoam tray, which was also in immaculate condition, but no box. I asked how long did the toy not have the box, and he said, he got them that way. Hmmm.. He has a Facebook page with pics of the vavilos and biodragon under username Toystash collectibles. Then in the for sale section here, I see an unoppened box of 6 daimos'! And the seller is from the same country as the toy convention I went to. I'm not saying the daimos' are bootlegs. I just found it weird that I came across such immaculate and pristine condition vintage dx's in a span of 5 days. What if tho..

Well, I have no idea about the bootleg situation, but I can say, as times got squeaky-er in that last few years, a new wave of "finds" of old stock have genuinely been happening. Or , at least we've seen more old school collectors sell off good hoarded stuff to pay bills, or quit the hobby and move on. Toystore owners from the robot heyday are getting old, retiring, or dying, and stashed stock will likely keep trickling out of the woodwork for a bit. At least I'm hoping and a' digging!

That would be a the better, 'natural' explanation of things. I just hate how the bootleggers are targeting vintage stuff lately. I've seen bootlegs of rare vintage star wars figs, rare gi joes and transformers. I don't see any reason why Chinese fake factories wouldn't bootleg rare chogokins..

Another thing I wanted to add is that they used to send DX chogokin here to the US in styro trays so that they can be boxed here. I may be wrong, but I believe Matchbox Voltron and Godaikin were package in their US boxes here in NJ. Maybe thats why Godaikins were piled high in every darn store around here years ago when I couldnt afford to buy them Maybe the mint figures without boxes were slated for sale here in the US or somewhere that would need repackaging but never sold. I used to sell Japanese RC cars and the distributor would often sell me some kits that did not come with boxes at a significant discount. I would then part them out or sell them cheaper than boxed versions. They were not bootlegs but rather genuine with no box for whatever reason.

Not robot related at all, except that I learned this at Frank & Sons... but my girlfriend collects Disney pins and we found out most of them these days are fakes. People send one real one to china and have copies made and sell them on ebay and trade them like crazy at the parks. They are an easy target, and Disney is now cracking down. Wouldn't be surprised if the same thing were happening with DX robots. Sad, but keeps reminding me to just enjoy the toys and don't expect to do this for profit.

Chachipower is right, I think. They did in fact send Godaikins (later ones like Bioman and Vavilos and Machine Dolphin) in just styrofoam to NJ in the early to mid 80s. I think I have seen several being sold on ebay by Steve Agin who I also think is from NJ. If they had just been sitting in a warehouse and Agin managed to buy a ton they would be in beautiful condition.

Ahhh yes, the Disney Pin fakes. I've heard of this going around as well. While I agree one should not expect to profit from collecting these pins, while it would be a nice bonus, one might still hope for the pin to retain some semblance of value relative to what was paid...especially if you're buying something with the notion that it is genuine. I can't remember exactly where I saw it, but I recently saw a for-sale ad for a case of Godaikin Daimos. Daimos was originally packed 6 per case so I'm thinking this is probably what you were referring to in your post. I doubt there are multiple sealed cases of Godaikin Daimos floating around, so this is probably the same item I saw. This seller had various other unopened vintage items that were C-8.5 to C-9.5 MISB condition so they're probably not bootlegs being manufactured. As for the Disney pins comparison, xTIMMYxCOREx, I understand what you are saying and can see it as a possibility. But the economical factors to consider in producing Disney pins vs Die-cast Gokins with tons of functioning parts is like comparing counterfeiting baseball cards vs 3 3/4" G.I. joe figures. Both are totally possible, but the latter would require extensive resources and would have to be produced with notable numbers just to break even from production and manufacturing costs. That being said, if vintage gokins were being illegally produced, there would surely be a wave of information, reports and warnings of upcoming releases like whenever a G1 Transformer KO is about to take flight.

You're partially correct, they did send the toys to a Bandai distro warehouse in NJ. where they PROMPTLY DISCARDED ALL JAPANESE PACKAGING! And replaced them with the less asthetically appealing Godaikin boxes we all know and love:(
