Hope it's True let's wait for the official Word on June 25th Quote The August issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Gundam Ace magazine is announcing on Saturday that an anime project of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga is launching. The manga is itself a re-imagining of Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise's first Mobile Suit Gundam anime project by the anime's character designer. Yasuhiko is ending the manga in the same August issue of Gundam Ace. Yasuhiko launched the manga in Gundam Ace's inaugural issue in 2001. (The magazine is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month with the launch of a Mobile Suit Z Gundam manga by the anime's animation director Hiroyuki Kitazume.) Viz Media published part of the manga in North America. Bandai Channel had revealed that another new Gundam project would be announced on Saturday. Dear Jesus! If this is true....I just...this...I...um.....Wow! Just about the coolest news I've heard in a loooong time. Um...yeah. Happy! We'll see of course, but I'll be damned. Gundam the Origin Manga and it's designs by Yasuhiko Sensei are among my absolute favorites! I can barely contain my friggin' excitement for the official news!

No wonder Bandai made a great effort in promoting the Gundam with the elephant gun...

Well, I understand that the official word will come on the 25th as to what the project is for sure, but between the scans of Gundam Ace magazine and the RX-78-2 emblazoned banner, I can't see how it'll be anything but Origin! I would say for those who are still skeptical to pick up the translated manga from Viz. Then again it might be a tough sell for those who can't get over the styling of Origins' Gundam. Okawara designs are either hit or miss with some fans. Been a fan of Origin since I picked up my first Gundam Ace back in the early 2000's and this, for me at least is pure red meat! Of course, while it would've been nice to have Bandai/Sunrise announce a Gundam Sentinal OVA or TV, I would never have imagined in my current lifetime that we'd see Origin even animated. And just think, we could be talking about Gundam OO FACE MS designs right now. Yeah, I'll take Origin~! Now, this certainly means that Gunpla and Damashii of Origin designs for Gundam, Zaku II and etc will follow over the next several months after the announcement. However, Bandai does a pretty good job overall with their HG and MG lines in terms of releasing a variety of MS subjects. That doesn't mean they can't do much better (Recolours, Reprints, etc), but over the years I've learned to just be patient and let the market run its course. Hell, I'm still holding out for a PG of Hyaku Shiki or EX-S Gundam! LOL! Ah well, there's a quote that says "there's nothing new under the sun" and Gundam perhaps truly lends itself to that sentiment in terms of it's interpretations and merits in the giant robot genre. Hey...it's Gundam after all. For me this is probably the most refreshing anime announcement I've heard since Unicorn. And while I'm probably the only fan here who's completely electrified by this news, hopefully we can all come together as a community and support the Gundam scene in other ways.

^ Agreed. I certainly would be more looking forward to this series than the Gundam AGE one.
Recca, I've never read the Gundam Origin manga. Are there many MSV suits appearing in there, or just the regular suits from the OYW series? What about ace pilots like Shin Matsunaga and Johnny Ridden, do they make an appearance there as well?

You know, from my understanding the manga primarily covers the main characters of the 0079 story. So you get lots of focus of Amuro and White Base crew (Bright, Frau, Mirai, Ryu, Hyato, Kai), Char and Sayla (especially their backstory with the Zabi's and Char's encounter with Casval) Ghiren, Dozzle, Rhamba Rahl, Kycilia and those guys. Main events of the OYW are either lengthened or altered in order to add addtional dynamics to the narrative of the origianl story. I did not take Gundam The Origin as a 'reboot', but more of a stand alone narrative that focuses on the main plot points and builds upon them within the original OYW/0079 story. Pure speculation on my part since I've not read past vol 12 of the Viz releases, but I'd be surprised however if we didn't get some glimpses at other ace pilots and maybe some Origin MSV designs as it does cover the whole of the OYW. Can't stress enough that this news is absolute red meat for fans of the manga and of the OYW narrative. Also, Viz only published 12 issues of the manga here in the states, but I'm sure there are scanlations running around the internets as well. Guess we'll see how this all goes down this Friday US time (Sat JST).
