Hey All! I got bit by the collecting bug about a year and a half ago. I started off just looking for some parts to fix up my childhood toy, which happened to be a Matchbox Voltron III GB-36. When I started researching matching parts, I started to discover all the variations that had been made. I was hooked pretty quick! I must say, I learned a ton from this site, not just about my addiction but about all types of toys that I never even knew existed. So far my Collection is just DX versions of Golion/Voltron III/Lionbot. The goal, of course, is to get one of every variation out there. glane21 and chachipower are my personal hero's! Any way, guess that's enough rambling on. Here is a pic of my collection as it stands today: A quick run down of them: Row 1: 1. Lionbot: Upside down belt buckle, plastic arms and black body. 2. Lionbot: Diamond Belt, Many unique changes on him. 3. Lionbot: V-Belt. My favorate! Chrome Elbow and tails on the arms. 4. Reebok Toynami Voltron: Same as the Collector Gift set, but with chrome legs on all lions. (Like the Master Piece Voltron) Row 2: 1. Trendmaster Voltron: Chrome Weapons, Large Number on Black Lion Sticker. 2. Trendmaster Voltron: Gold Weapons, Small Number on Black Lion Sticker. 3. MatchBox Voltron III GB-36: This was my actual childhood toy! 4. MatchBox Voltron III Golion D Row 3: 1. Mutant Lionbot: Black Lion is a mixture of different lionbot parts, arms & legs are all from a V belt. Chrome tails and elbows. 2. Matchbox Voltron III Golion D: On 2 of the lions it has a sticker that say's Golion, then next to that is a 2nd sticker that is circular and just has a D. I'd never seen or heard of this before. Anyway just thought I would introduce myself and show off my collection.

Nice collection! Quite flattered that I am one of your heroes I must say that from all the headspinning examples I have of this bot, I still do not have any of the belt variations...at least none that I know about. I used to buy these obsessively and without really looking at the belts. I could literally form an army. I used to buy them to make a few good condition complete sets but I never get around to doing that. As a big fan, I keep a look out for the belts lately but no luck. Again I absolutely LOVE your collection. Have you ever seen the gigantic Trendmasters release? I got one real cheap but the girl sent it in a huge box with no stuffing AT ALL so all I got was a box of plastic chips. How bout the mid size Lionbot? its half size but diecast, basically a downsized version of the DX. Just be careful, this guy is addicting OMG, I even see a chest variant! NIce! Love the chrome elbow Lionbot, first Ive seen...you are making me itch for more

Thanks chachipower! My goal is to collect the entire family tree of Golion/Voltron III/Loinbots. Some where I have an excel file that I logged all them from my research across the web. I believe it was like 23 variations starting with the original Popy DX Golion all the way through to the newest Toynami's. The V-belt is my favorite Lionbot, it actually has 3 versions. First is the one like mine. The 2nd has extended necks on the blue and yellow lions. The 3rd like glane21 (seen in his parade pictures) it seems to have "normal" arms and legs that look more traditional. It's funny, they seem to go in spells on eBay. I'd been looking for the Diamond belts for some time. Then mine showed up about a month ago. Right after 3 more have shown up. 2 of them are currently in auction here's the links: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330586204854&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:ITcgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180695045561&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:ITI've see the extra large Trendmasters version and the 1/2 sized DX. I'd love to get them, but I'm really trying to get all the DX's before I branch out. The one with the skull chest is a custom. I was messing around and making a Evil Voltron from Esp 44. It's just stuck on there over the crest sticker.

SENSORY OVERLOAD!! Extended necks?! LIONKING? Inner sleeve variations?! I am most definitely slipping guys, I see tons of voltron auctions, but never bothered to really take a very close look to find the variations. They arent always as obvious as one would think.
Awesome thread

WOW, rayar!
That is a great pic of the extended neck! Is that yours?
The Extended neck V-belt is very high on my list to get as soon as possible. I've never seen on for sale yet. One of these days I'll find him!
The 1/2 Size DX is very cool also. Timebot? isn't there another one that is called Timebot, but it's actually a clock of some sort?
The other tough one that I'm after is the Diamond Belt with the pointed chest crest. It's also high on my list just under the Extended Neck V-Belt.
I've discovered though, allot of my collector's mania is the hunt! I love searching for this stuff.

I bought it around 5 years ago and it's the only mint and complete dx lionbot I own. I had to have it because of of the necks and the chrome elbows, and I also have not seen one for sale ever since this one. Timebot is also the voltron watch.

You have a Fake-Voltron (from an actual episode) there! Did you make the "chest-shield" custom or did it come with it? I've never seen one of those before!

Ummmm, I don't mean to be an A-hole... but, please Do not post links to live eBay auctions out here in public. If the auction has ended, it's ok to show what was SOLD. If the auction is still On, and the item still Hasn't sold, that means the auction is LIVE. If you wanna share a live auction link with another RJer, send it to that person via PM. It's a courtesy thing, so as not to incite competition amongst RJers who may be shopping for stuff on ebay. As a tight community, we'd hate to ruin our relationship to cat-fights over "who saw that auction item first" and "bid wars" and similar fusses. We're all family here. Just a friendly reminder. Thanks. zozo-Mag

I think I know which one you spotted in that pic. Good eye! Good eye! Shshshshsh, Don't say which one... let's have a guess game with it and see who else spots it! ;D zozo-mag You have a Fake-Voltron (from an actual episode) there! Did you make the "chest-shield" custom or did it come with it? I've never seen one of those before! }D

It's from esp 44 of the original series. My son ( 5 years old ) wanted to be able to fight Voltrons, but 2 "good guy" Voltrons couldn't fight each other. So we made the Evil Voltron. He's a Voltron nut also. Those 2 actually get played with quite a bit. I just took a picture of a skull, then modified it to look more like Lotor's Evil Voltron. It's printed out on a piece of photo paper, then cut to size and stuck in there. The Voltron it's self is a 97 Trendmaster version with the Chrome weapons. Most people don't know there are differences between the Chrome Weapon and Gold Weapon 97 Trendmasters versions. Sorry magengar, I wasn't aware of the no auction rule. Just wanted to show there are some of the Diamond Belts currently floating around. Won't happen again.

No problem, bro. Hey... keep us posted, you've got quite a library of Voltrons there, and it's interesting to know that there are sooo many variants out there even I was never aware of. I also like that "evil" Voltron version you made, cool idea for "Voltron vs Voltron"! This is awesome. We have brother Tsurugi with his large collection of Aoshima Mazinkaisers of various versions... ...and now we have brother Muratus with this fine collection of Voltron variants nicely documented. If the RJ main website doesn't have a Voltron toy library yet, it needs one now... This one by Muratus. zozo-Mag

When you say differences between the chrome and gold weapons, you mean differences in the figure itself, or just the weapons? I have both and I may have sold one a while back...dont remember, I had a ton of those. Its funny because this was before internet for me so I didnt even know Voltron was being reissued. I was reaching over to grab a Star Wars figure from a peg and I kept tripping on a box at my feet and when I got annoyed and looked down to push it away, I saw the Voltron logo and realized it was Voltron. Like a darn dream come true. I bought like 3 that day cause they were $30..quite a deal for a diecast robot.

Yeah, I remember the Trendmasters Voltron at Toys R Us for $30 bucks. I bought a couple as well, but the gold weapons never sank in with me, so I sold them all. I do still have an old Lionbot I bought when I was a teenager via paper flyers anime import specialized stores used to send in the mail... yes, flyers! There was no internet back then! Of course, I didn't like the chrome, so I painted the legs and waist in white. This was pre-airbrush, so it looks like crap.

Most notable is the #1 sticker on the back of the black lion. The chrome weapon version the #1 printed on the sticker is much bigger then the gold weapon version. There was a few other minor differences in the stickers, been awhile since I've compared them closely. Mostly is print size changes/font changes. I remember seeing them for sale at Toy r us in the 90's. For some unknown reason I never got one. I just kept thinking how much better mine looked then they did.

Just wondering, is the "Lionking" set the only variant that has the chrome elbows?

Man I'm jealous the lion king and the time bot are the last two that I have never been able to find in a condition worth buying. I have every other variant and some I've never seen before but everytime I see those two I realize I still have a collection to complete even though I've been selligboff some of my rarest pieces lately. Very nice collection btw.
