The VF-19EF Caliburn is rumored to be Isamu's VF in the second Macross F movie. The VF-19EF is a mass produced "monkey model" of the VF-19E. Since the Unified Government of Earth has become blatantly reluctant to export the latest technological developments to the emigrant fleets and planets, mass production of the VF-19E in the Frontier fleet was primarily a joint development with Shinsei Frontier and LAI. The airframe control, AI, sensor system and other equipment are original developments of Frontier, with a limiter placed on some mechanisms. It is equipped with canards and VFC according to SMS doctrine, which believes that atmospheric combat is important. The SMS specification also adopted the experimental EX-Gear prototype as a flight control system, and succeeded in protecting the pilot from the unparalleled maneuverability of the VF-19. The standard gun pod mounted on the VF-19EF is normally the Hughes GU-15, but it can be equipped with the new model Hughes GU-17A, developed for the VF-25. Modifications were made to the airframe of the VF-19EF in order to withstand the larger recoil of the GU-17A. 154 craft were produced by the Frontier Fleet, and most of these were deployed to S.M.S.. A number of craft were also deployed to Frontier's New Unified Forces' special operations squadron, "Round Table", which play an active role in counter-terrorism operations. The data collected by SMS would be brought into fruition with the VF-25 and VF-171EX.

Isamu from Macross Plus? He must be a very old man by the time of the Frontier series.

Isamu from Macross Plus? He must be a very old man by the time of the Frontier series. He's 44 years old at that time. That's not "old" especially compared to Max who was 52 years old in Macross 7.

Oh I thought Frontier was based a lot longer after Plus, I guess in the Macross timeline it must take place maybe 20-25 years after Plus I'm guessing.

Frontier is 2059, less than 20 years after Plus, and only 14 years since 7. My question is why the hubbub now? I thought the second Frontier movie had been out in Japan months ago. I thought a spoiler like this would have common knowledge by now (actually I just recently read the same spoiler myself this week). Hmm, now if only it'd come out on BD so the fansubbers could get to work! Edit: Oops - I just realized I mixed up the titles of the movies... every article I read that I thought was talking about the release date of the second movie was actually talking about the first movie. Heh - colour me embarassed.

Don't you age slower in space? Hence characters who are 40-50 could still be "young"

I'm yet to see anything about aging slower in space in a scientific document....

There is a relative "slowing" of aging if you are traveling in space near the speed of light. If you are on a ship traveling near light speed then you would age more slowly than those who remain on Earth. It's part of the theory of relativity. Gravity also "bends" space. Trippy stuff.

If you are on a ship traveling near light speed then you would age more slowly than those who remain on Earth. It's part of the theory of relativity. Gravity also "bends" space. Trippy stuff. And yet, at the same time, you would age at exactly the same speed, meanwhile everyone else would be aging faster. Both of these accounts would simultaneously be true. But relativity aside, you don't age slower in space in reality, no. As a matter of fact, because your body is more exposed to the various degrees of solar and cosmic radiation that would more commonly be absorbed or deflected by earth's atmosphere, you're more likely to experience cellular damage (and as a result, have a higher likelihood of things like Cancer in addition to experiencing an overall shortening of life) the longer you are in space, thus in all likelihood lowering your overall potential lifespan. The average loss is about one day per week spent bathing in an unshielded cosmic ray environment.

Watch Gunbuster for a GOOD example of aging while traveling near the speed of light.

Watch Gunbuster. Period, full stop. No further questions. Fixed Returning to topic, as neat as it is to have the plus-syle 19 returning to the limelight, there's no planned toys for it as far as I can tell... (unfortunately), making the thread as a whole a bit of a red herring
