I originally was inquiring about the looseness of the older 3" Shogun Warriors. Not many responses were given so I figured I'd re-introduce this thread as a general discussion about them. So apologies in advance for hijacking my own thread.
Seeing as I just started collecting, I was looking for some figures and toys that may be a bit more affordable than some of the rarer and more popular items. Jumbos seemed like a good idea but their prohibitive size was a bit off putting for displaying purposes. I will say that they turned me on to the cool stylings of Shogun Warriors though. I then discovered the 3" versions. They both looked awesome and seemed pretty affordable.
The only problem I've found with them is a lack of pictures and discussion of them in general. I've seen the awesome Wildtoys page but information is definitely lacking on it and quality pics are pretty much non-existent. Thumbnails don't really do it for me.
So fast forward to now and I've picked up 9 out of the 10 (Leopaldon you scoundrel. There's always got to be one that makes a complete set hard) in two separate lot purchases. They are loose and in varying degrees of condition. I've got some things to point out in a bunch of pics and maybe some questions of mine can be answered.
On to the pic pr0n.
All lined up in a pretty little row showing fronts and backs:
Now, looking at them individually, things get kinda interesting. The first lot I got, consisted of a Dragun, Grandizer, Poseidon, Great Mazinga, and Gaiking. These were a little beat up and that was part of the reason why I questioned their limb looseness as these guys are hard to keep standing up for display.
DRAGUN
GRENDIZER
POSEIDON
This kind of threw me off as his feet appear to be backward. I guess this is the way he is supposed to be but I don't really know.
GREAT MAZINGA
GAIKING
Now, one of the things I noticed with this Gaiking and some pictures of other ones I've seen online, is that some of them have red stickers in the eye sockets.
Is this what is known as a Mini Godaikin version? Or is it just a variant?
I also noticed that all of these have an embossed "JAPAN" in their die-cast bodies.
These next four were in the second batch of figures I got. The first thing I noticed about these was their general mintiness. What I found odd was the lack of the embossed "JAPAN" on the bodies. Two of the figures, Daitetsujin and Dangard, had an embossed "JAPAN" but only on their legs. The other two, Combattra and Voltes V did not have any markings at all. Also, the tightness of the joints had answered my initial question about their stability. Of course I could be wrong about that if these are actually KO's. So, if anyone wants to chime in on their being legit, then please do.
DAITETSUJIN 17
The aforementioned "JAPAN" mark:
DANGARD
Same leg mark:
The next two have no marks except for some numbers on the backs of their arms.
COMBATTRA
VOLTES V
So there you have it. I'm still confused about the legitness of these last four. I alos have no idea what a Mini Godaikin is or looks like. I know there is a list but any pics of them or expanded info seems to not exist. So, let's discuss these guys. They are great entry level collector's items and all of them, save for Leopaldon seems easy to get. Thanks for looking.
