Man this is so cool. I think I saw this on my journey through the web somewhere a couple days ago. It would be the one thing to push me over the edge for my very first toy from 3A. Unfortunately I'm sure the price of this thing would keep me from even thinking about a purchase. Has a price-point even been announced!? LOL! Either way, just a completely awesome piece here! Everyone needs to check this out. Love Ashley Wood works and 3A stuff!

Isn't it just a custom made one-off show piece? I don't think it is a production figure. I could be wrong.

Yes, only for the show, that's why props ain't the same as the sketches : it's more bulkhead. Maybe it's a shot to test reactions... Imho, Zaku is the german-like designed mecha which is suiting well with A. Wood robot world. This hypothetic production could be a hit.

Looks like the Ash Wood Zaku is, in fact, being release next year per the latest newsletter from 3A. Sweet! Zaku is coming very soon to Bambaland from the mighty team of 3AXBandai Still a bit worried about the price point though...

As a standalone, it's okay, I guess. As a Zaku, it's terrible. Even taking into account artistic license, it loses some of the most basic identifying points that would make it a "zaku", like the mono eye and armor skirt. The hoses are sort of randomly strewn about and the disproportionate look make it look more like a dude in armor as seen through a fun house mirror.
Not impressed.

I thought you'd be all up on this one, Sir quinjester! Hehheh. J/K. Seriously though, while those criticisms are valid, I think I like this piece for what it does bring to the table rather than what it leaves out. For starters, that paint job is just fantastic as to be expected from 3A. It also seems to take a few proportion and design cues from Kazuhisa Kondo which can tend to stray a bit from the classic looks of certain mecha. Sure, it omits the skirt armor and the mono-eye, and additionally the Zaku rifle is completely different. However, I still knew it was a Zaku with parts like the shoulder armor and that massive bottom leg/calf armor. The hoses I didn't find to be as much of a distraction, but I suppose that's a personal preference. So yeah, in the end, Ash Woods' design is pretty stark in contrast with regular Zaku designs. I would almost compare it to what Syd Mead did to the classic Gundam design with his Turn A Gundam (which I also like). ;D All I need now is a decent cost for this thing and it's goin' on the shelf! It would be my first 3A piece actually. I'm wondering how 3A toys are in terms of fragility though. It does seem to have some limited articulation, but I'd be afraid to actually touch it.

.......and it's up for pre-order for $330 including world wide shipping on bambaland. Been up already for a couple of days, and from what I could understand, that's an eternity in 3A sales terms.
Apparently next in line is ..........Mazinger
