I see Kitsir from time to time posting about the various vinyl and diecast robots he has restored and modified... So I get to wondering, should I try to restore a few aspects of my Popy GA and GB robots? Anyone else doing this, thought about it, etc? Matching the paints is an obvious issue... Discuss amongst yourselves ;D.

I've done a few real beaters in the past - an ST DaiBaron springs to mind. I am not a perfection freak - if I were, then I wouldn't contemplate restoration, but equally, presumably I wouldn't actually own anything that needed to be restored.
I really only restore something for the fun and challenge. As per anything, a robot is only ever original once, so a restored version will always have that air of 'not quite right' about it; but on the other hand, if it's a choice between a busted, arms-broken-off, no-paint, oxidised metal, deteriorating wreck or a repainted and presentable robot, I say restore it. Especially as there's enjoyment in the process as well as the end result. Fixing....restoring...rebuilding from donors....it's all good as long as it's not done to deceive.
O/T - do I know you from the HAMB?

I know that tattoojack got a few of my robocon toys for cheap. I purchased a lot that had toys that appeared to be buried for years. There was one I needed and the price was right.
He restored the Yellow egg from robocon as well as Robocon himself.

OT, yes I am on the HAMB and have an endless '51 Mercury custom project, and you? I keep looking at a few of my figures, like the red painted chest parts of Voltes ST. I don't ever want to sell him but I wonder about doing a little restoring.

I like the chase - took me years to get a chest V for my Volt, and no doubt I could have just bought a more complete example in the first place. But where's the fun in that? I like older robots than pristine examples anyway, but when it crosses that line between patina and wreck, I say restore it.
I've seen your Merc BTW - looking good! I'm on a '49 Ford F1. 'Finished' it last year - so how come I'm still working on it?

Yeah I am still finishing the door windows and grille on the Mercury, and then I have to do the interior. Do you have pics of your F1 on the HAMB?
It would be also cool if someone repopped a lot of the decals too. I see the jumbo guys are not shy about restoring their figures.

You can chop a Merc, you can print a decal!! I just wish I could get troop weapons and accessories. Yeah - there's some pictures of my f1 under my tonyvan username on the hamb. It's from when it was first finished. It's been finished twice more sine then - not noticeably though!
