hi, i am a newbie here.. but i found this ceramic R2D2 interesting and couldn't really find any info on it anywhere. the guy who sold it to me said it was given to his son as a gift just after the release of ANH in 1978 and that it was a night light kit he assembled back in the 70s being a huge star wars fan i just had to get it ;D here is a few pics it is marked "great plains" and 1978 does anyone here know any more about this? as to its value, origins, or history?

Awesome info! YEARS later I see this thread and have a similar toy by Great Plains. They did a coin bank version using the same mold. I also can now tell that these were unpainted, so you see a giant range of "artistic" versions.
Mine was white with silver accents.

Wow... Dashrazor, that's Awesome! It makes me wanna try molding something like that, using resin or metal epoxy. Thanks for posting and sharing; and I realize you joined us here last summer, so, Welcome to RJ! zozo-mag
