Well, vinyl kaiju is definitely an acquired taste... ;D }D I hear ya and understand. I'm not trying to force it on anyone. Just posting it for those who are interested in this area of collecting. I would expect these to be a lot more in the realm of collectors here (due to a basic similarity to Godzilla-ish monsters) than other vinyls some people collect on other boards.

No love for vinyl around here, Myles. We'll need to support each other on this one. Nice pickups! Always dig the minis.

I can't help it, whenever I see them in those colors candy is the first thing that comes to my mind. I hope I didn't appear to be dissin them. That toy category is unsung around here, they certainly need more attention if at least to show them off and discuss about them more often. I'd certainly score one, it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of those on my shelf, like, Godzilla and Gamera. zozo-mag

I know you get it, Tony. I was not speaking to your comments. The fact that you chimed in is good. Myles has a point about the vinyl threads here seem to die quick. I dig robots, I have lots of them, but the monstas need love too.

Its kind of hard to see the details on the first one - Mark Nagata has a better shot of it on his website: www.maxtoyco.com/Shop_item.php?id=636&cat=2&sub=0So is that Franky boy a different facial mold? Looks different from most of the others I've seen. And did I read correctly? I think you posted on FB that you were trying to complete the Toho Godzilla line in the '92 issues. That's an underappreciated year, I think. Most overlook it. But to me, its semi-vintage, and cheaper than newer releases. Not sure why that is. I've got several from that year myself, including Goji himself.

Yep. I have all but the Mothra, Minilla and Gojira. Not a huge fan of that sculpt of the big guy, but I have to own it to complete the set. I have the Gigan and the Angilas headed in right now. I'll put them all together for a group shot very soon.
The Frankenstein is from the 2002 Wonderfest set that comes with that Baragon. I think it is different than other sculpts. It's the only rep I own of that character. Gotta track down a good Sanda and Gaira set now.

I actually dig these vinyl kaiju figs and vinyl in general. If I didn't already have my hands in so many collectible cookie jars, I'd probably be more apt to spend a bit of cash on some of these. They add so much character to any collection. Nice pics, all! Also, thanks KingboyD, for dropping that link. Lots of cool stuff there! The designs by Mark Nagata are pretty awesome. I still have my inaugural issue of Super 7 that I keep at the ready when I get the urge to look into the vintage scene.

I got started in these much later than the robots, but I jumped in with both feet and have been definitely adding more of these than robots to my collection over the last few years. I think that once you see a nice collection in person, it wins you over.

Thanks! Yeah, I love it, and can't wait to get my hands on it. Its nice to know that some new toys are still trying to capture the vintage feel. Some cool one-offs were done for a recent show too:

i love vinyl kaiju, i have 2 shelves so far. i just dont see how folks can wath mazinger cartoons and not have the same addiction to monsters from their godzilla and gamera flicks? i doubt many people here would dig the revoltech takeya series, which in reality, the hindu/buddhist usage of lines if where almost all of the principles of design come from in their japanese robots (and kaiju).

They have a classic charm to them.. the 1970s come to mind. I had many of them in this kind of style as a kid. Brings back memories of the bad guys from the original Ultraman. Wouldnt you say so Magengar?

Shshshshsh.... I'm trying to decide which ones I'd like to eat first.
I can't wait for Halloweeeeen! ;D
-------------
just kidding.
Seriously, I don't collect this toy line. Not that it doesn't interest me, I just haven't gotten around to trying it with at least one or two of these beautiful specimens. I like their paint-jobs, all those minty green and metallic christmas red colors gives me that winter-fresh frosty candy vibe... That's where my Candy puns come from when I look at them. lol ;D
Many of those kaijus were, or may have been, from the original Ultraman shows. And you might see some of these that were inspired by many of Toho's kaiju movies as well.
I get the munchies every time I see these.
